General Summary

The Warehouse Manager is responsible for leading the daily operations of shipping, receiving, inventory management, distribution, and logistics of supplies and equipment across the Phelps Health network. This role partners closely with Procurement, Clinical, and Operational teams to ensure timely product availability, efficient material flow, regulatory compliance, and exceptional customer service that supports patient care and organizational objectives.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee daily warehouse, shipping/receiving, inventory, and distribution operations to ensure efficient, accurate, and timely delivery of supplies and equipment throughout the organization.
  • Analyze workflows and develop team capabilities by training, coaching, and supporting requisitioners, distribution staff, inventory coordinators, and department stakeholders. Promote a positive, accountable, and safe work culture.
  • Establish, monitor, and continuously improve inventory control processes to maintain product availability while minimizing waste, carrying costs, and stockouts.
  • Optimize warehouse layouts, storage strategies, and material movement processes to maximize space utilization, improve productivity, and support operational growth.
  • Develop staffing plans and manage resources to ensure appropriate coverage across all shifts and operational needs.
  • Track, analyze, and report key performance indicators (KPIs) related to inventory accuracy, service levels, productivity, delivery performance, fill rates, and customer satisfaction. Implement corrective actions and process improvements as needed.
  • Establish departmental goals and lead continuous improvement initiatives that support Supply Chain strategic objectives and operational excellence.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and ensure compliance with organizational policies, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements related to warehouse operations, materials management, and healthcare distribution.
  • Build strong relationships with internal departments and external partners to proactively communicate issues, resolve barriers, and maintain continuity of operations.
  • Support emergency preparedness efforts, supply disruption response, and continuity planning to ensure uninterrupted patient care operations.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree or 5 years of applicable work experience.


Work Experience

  • Five or more years’ experience in inventory, shipping/receiving and distribution management. Three years of previous supervisory experience preferred.


Certification/License

  • Industry credentials like Certified Material and Resource Professional (CMRP), Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM), or Lean Six Sigma certification are highly valued.

Mental/Physical Requirements

  • Work can be moderately stressful, requiring periods of concentrated effort. Requires the physical ability to stoop, bend, and transport self, carts, and medical equipment through hospital at least 50% of the shift. Must be able to lift 35 lbs.


Working Conditions

  • Work is performed primarily in an air-conditioned supply room. Noise levels are usually light. Work is performed under the following conditions: approximately 40% in a standard temperature controlled office environment, 40% in a temperature controlled storeroom environment, and 20% on an outside dock exposed to external conditions. Noise levels may vary from light (office machinery) to moderately heavy (truck noises, engineering equipment).
