Job Description

The ACE Regional Portfolio Strategy Lead owns and drives the integrated, cross-asset portfolio strategy across the ACE region, ensuring consistent translation of global strategy into actionable, regionally relevant execution guidance.

This role acts as the critical strategic bridge between Global and Country teams, enabling aligned scientific positioning, coordinated execution, and proactive portfolio management across affiliates in a complex and heterogeneous environment.

Key Responsibilities

1. Regional Portfolio Strategy Leadership

  • Own the ACE-level portfolio strategy across all assets and disease areas.

  • Translate global strategy into clear, prioritised, and actionable regional guidance to support consistent country execution (e.g., POA alignment).

  • Ensure coherent portfolio-wide scientific positioning across the region.

2. Strategic Integration & Execution Alignment

  • Drive alignment across Medical Affairs, Government Affairs, Public Affairs, and other cross-functional stakeholders.

  • Partner with ACE networks (e.g., CMD TA Leads, GMA Execution Lead) to ensure consistent and high-quality regional execution

  • Enable best-practice sharing and adoption across affiliates to reduce variability in execution.

3. Above-Country Scientific & External Engagement

  • Own above-country relationships and engagement strategy with:

    • Payers, Access and Government Stakeholders (PAGS)

    • Guideline committees

    • Professional associations

    • Independent Medical Education (IME) providers

  • Provide regional medical leadership and input into:

    • Public Affairs / Government Affairs / GV&A strategy

    • EMA label strategy and timing

4. Portfolio Insights & Decision Support

  • Deliver portfolio-level insights, analysis, and recommendations to regional leadership.

  • Identify and monitor emerging regional risks, opportunities, and external trends.

  • Support proactive, data-driven regional decision-making in an increasingly complex portfolio.

5. Cross-Country Coordination & Issue Management

  • Drive coordinated, region-wide responses to scientific and strategic challenges affecting multiple affiliates.

  • Ensure early identification and mitigation of cross-country risks.

  • Improve speed and quality of decision-making by reducing fragmentation and reactive approaches.

Scope & Impact

  • Geography: ACE region (multi-country, heterogeneous access and policy landscape)

  • Portfolio: All assets across disease areas

  • Level: Enterprise/Regional (ED or SD level)

Impact:

  • Drives consistency in scientific messaging and execution across affiliates

  • Enhances strategic clarity and prioritisation at country level

  • Strengthens external influence and stakeholder alignment

  • Enables faster, proactive portfolio decision-making

Key Interfaces

Internal

  • Global Medical Affairs

  • ACE Medical Leadership (CMD TA Leads, affiliates)

  • Government Affairs / Public Affairs / GV&A

  • Commercial and cross-functional regional teams

  • GMA Execution Lead

External

  • Payers and policy stakeholders

  • PAGS

  • Guideline committees

  • Professional associations

  • IME providers

Critical Capabilities & Experience

Technical / Functional

  • Deep understanding of portfolio strategy and lifecycle management

  • Strong expertise in Medical Affairs and scientific positioning

  • Experience with EMA label processes and regional policy environments

Leadership & Strategic Skills

  • Ability to operate at enterprise/portfolio level rather than single-asset focus

  • Strong strategic translation skills (global → regional → country)

  • Proven capability in cross-functional and matrix leadership

  • Skilled in navigating complexity and heterogeneity across markets

External Engagement

  • Experience engaging with above-country stakeholders and influencers

  • Strong understanding of health policy, access, and guideline ecosystems

Success Measures (Typical for Gilead Role Profiles)

  • Alignment and consistency of portfolio execution across ACE affiliates

  • Quality and impact of regional strategic guidance (POA alignment)

  • Effectiveness of cross-country risk identification and mitigation

  • Strength of external stakeholder engagement and influence

  • Contribution to regional leadership decision-making and outcomes

Why This Role is Critical

This role addresses a structural gap between global strategy and country execution, ensuring the ACE region can manage increasing portfolio complexity while maintaining consistency, speed, and strategic coherence.

Without it, execution remains fragmented, decision-making reactive, and opportunities for regional scale and influence underleveraged.

The role is based in UK – UK contract. We are pleased to share that Gilead’s Stockley Park and Holborn offices are planning to come together at a new London headquarters at 1 Triton Square, NW1, from approximately Q2 2027. Applicants should consider this planned location change when applying for this role. Gilead operates a flexible working policy, offering a balanced approach with two days of remote working and three days working onsite.
