Overview

Customer Security & Trust (CST) is Microsoft’s multidisciplinary organization responsible for protecting customers, defending against cybercrime and nation-state threats, advancing cybersecurity policy and regulatory compliance, and strengthening trust in the digital ecosystem. CST brings together cybersecurity policy and diplomacy, legal and regulatory expertise, threat intelligence, investigations, engineering, and national security operations to help make the digital ecosystem safer, more secure, and more trusted.


The Senior Director, Chief of Staff for Customer Security & Trust (CST) is an executive leader and trusted advisor to the VP, accountable for strategic leadership, executive effectiveness, and people management across a complex, global organization. Operating with broad autonomy and enterprise scope, this role shapes CST’s strategic agenda, ensures disciplined execution, and leads a high-performing team that enables the VP and CST leadership to operate at scale. A core emphasis of this role is external engagement strategy and preparation, alongside ownership of CST-wide planning, operating rhythm, and leadership alignment.



Responsibilities

Executive Leadership & Strategy

  • Serve as a principal advisor to the VP, shaping priorities, framing tradeoffs, and driving execution on the most complex and high-impact initiatives.
  • Lead CST’s strategic planning, multi-year roadmaps, and OKRs, ensuring alignment to Microsoft and CELA priorities.
  • Establish and run the CST operating model, including leadership cadence, decision forums, and business reviews.


External Engagement & Executive Readiness

  • Own the VP’s external engagement strategy across governments, regulators, customers, industry, and partners.
  • Ensure high-quality preparation for all engagements, including objectives, narratives, briefings, and talking points.
  • Drive consistency of CST and Microsoft positions and ensure follow-through on commitments and outcomes.


People Leadership & Org Effectiveness

  • Work with the leadership team, setting clear expectations, success metrics, and accountability.
  • Build organizational capability through coaching, succession planning, and talent development.
  • Partner with HR, Finance, and Business Operations on org design, headcount planning, and performance management.
  • Foster a culture of inclusion, execution excellence, and continuous improvement.


Cross-Functional Alignment & Execution

  • Act as an integrator across CST teams and key stakeholders in MGA and CELA, driving alignment, clarity, and momentum.
  • Resolve cross-team dependencies, remove execution barriers, and ensure durable outcomes.
  • Represent the VP in internal forums as delegated, with authority to drive decisions and alignment.


Communications & Influence

  • Oversee development of executive- and board-ready materials for internal and external audiences.
  • Ensure messaging is concise, strategic, and aligned with Microsoft and CELA priorities.


Qualifications

Required/minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant field (e.g., Liberal Arts, Business Administration, Management, Computer Science) AND 8+ years experience in financial management, business planning, operations management, strategy, project management, human resources or business-related roles
    • OR equivalent experience.
Additional or preferred qualifications
  • Master's Degree in relevant field (e.g., Liberal Arts, Business Administration, Management, Computer Science) AND 12+ years experience in financial management, business planning, operations management, strategy, project management, human resources, or business-related roles
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in relevant field (e.g., Liberal Arts, Business Administration, Management, Computer Science) AND 15+ years experience in financial management, business planning, operations management, strategy, project management, human resources, or business-related roles
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years people management experience.
  • Leadership experience in Chief of Staff, executive operations, strategy, or equivalent roles in a complex, matrixed organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate with enterprise scope and executive judgment at the CVP level.
  • Demonstrated strategic acumen combined with operational rigor and execution discipline.
  • Experience in cybersecurity, trust, policy, legal, regulatory, or external-facing domains.
  • Familiarity with government and regulatory engagement models.


Business Management M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $130,900.00 - $277,200.00 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $165,600.00 - $303,600.00 per year.
