Job Description

Your work days are brighter here.

We’re obsessed with making hard work pay off, for our people, our customers, and the world around us. As a Fortune 500 company and a leading AI platform for managing people, money, and agents, we’re shaping the future of work so teams can reach their potential and focus on what matters most. The minute you join, you’ll feel it. Not just in the products we build, but in how we show up for each other. Our culture is rooted in integrity, empathy, and shared enthusiasm. We’re in this together, tackling big challenges with bold ideas and genuine care. We look for curious minds and courageous collaborators who bring sun-drenched optimism and drive. Whether you're building smarter solutions, supporting customers, or creating a space where everyone belongs, you’ll do meaningful work with Workmates who’ve got your back. In return, we’ll give you the trust to take risks, the tools to grow, the skills to develop and the support of a company invested in you for the long haul. So, if you want to inspire a brighter work day for everyone, including yourself, you’ve found a match in Workday, and we hope to be a match for you too.

About the Team

Workday is a global leader in enterprise cloud applications for HR and Finance, and our Core Services team is the engine that keeps it running. We don’t just manage infrastructure; we build the foundational distributed systems' platform that powers mission-critical financial and HR data for the world’s largest organizations.

About the Role

We are looking for a DevOps & Platform Engineer to join our Core Services team. In this role, you won’t just manage servers—you will build the high-velocity engine that powers Workday. You’ll be responsible for designing and scaling our hybrid-cloud infrastructure across private and public cloud including AWS and GCP, ensuring our core platforms are resilient, secure, and lightning-fast.

Your mission is Developer Enablement: creating the seamless CI/CD pipelines and automated environments that allow our global engineering teams to innovate without friction. If you are passionate about "Infrastructure as Code" and thrive on solving complex distributed systems challenges, this is the place for you.

What You’ll Do

🏗️ Cloud Architecture & Orchestration

  • Design & Optimize: Build and refine complex cloud solutions on AWS/GCP, focusing on high-performance compute, storage, caching, and networking.

  • Master the Cluster: Deploy and scale applications using Docker and Kubernetes, ensuring our enterprise-scale clusters achieve maximum availability and resource efficiency.

  • Automate Everything: Architect and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to automate the entire lifecycle of our cloud resources.

🚀 CI/CD & Developer Experience

  • Modernize Delivery: Build advanced CI/CD pipelines and GitOps workflows to drive world-class release automation.

  • Empower Engineers: Serve as a Platform SME, helping development teams streamline their local builds, troubleshoot deployments, and master software configuration.

🛡️ Reliability & Security

  • Drive Observability: Implement proactive monitoring, logging, and alerting to detect and resolve infrastructure bottlenecks before they impact customers.

  • Harden the Platform: Enforce security best practices and compliance standards across our cloud environments.

  • Solve Complex Problems: Lead root-cause analysis (RCA) and provide expert-level support for platform-related incidents, collaborating across teams to build long-term fixes.

  • Document the Future: Maintain high-quality documentation for infrastructure designs and operational playbooks to ensure team-wide alignment.

About You

What You’ll Bring (Basic Qualifications)

  • Experience: 3+ years of professional experience in DevOps, Build Engineering, or Release Automation.

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

  • Cloud Proficiency: Hands-on experience with AWS or GCP (Compute, Networking, and Storage).

  • Container Mastery: Deep experience with Docker and Kubernetes orchestration at an enterprise scale.

  • SRE Mindset: A solid understanding of Site Reliability Engineering principles, including monitoring, alerting, and fault analysis.

  • The Java Stack: Foundational knowledge of Java and the JVM. You should be comfortable supporting Java-based apps and using build tools like Maven or Gradle.

  • Automation First: Strong scripting skills in Python, Bash, or Go to automate repetitive tasks and infrastructure.

The "Extra Credit" (Preferred Skills & Experience)

  • CI/CD Tooling: Experience with the modern "GitOps" stack: Jenkins, Helm, Argo CD/Workflows, and Kustomize.

  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Proven ability to manage environments using Terraform or CloudFormation.

  • Observability: Familiarity with keeping systems healthy using Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch, or the ELK stack.

  • Build Systems: A passion for designing and maintaining scalable software build systems and managing artifacts via Artifactory or Nexus.

  • Certifications: While not required, we value certifications like CKA/CKAD, AWS DevOps Engineer, or GCP Associate Cloud Engineer.

  • Collaboration: A track record of working effectively with developers and architects to implement Public Cloud best practices.

Our Approach to Flexible Work

With Flex Work, we’re combining the best of both worlds: in-person time and remote. Our approach enables our teams to deepen connections, maintain a strong community, and do their best work. We know that flexibility can take shape in many ways, so rather than a number of required days in-office each week, we simply spend at least half (50%) of our time each quarter in the office or in the field with our customers, prospects, and partners (depending on role). This means you'll have the freedom to create a flexible schedule that caters to your business, team, and personal needs, while being intentional to make the most of time spent together. Those in our remote "home office" roles also have the opportunity to come together in our offices for important moments that matter.

At Workday, we are committed to providing an accessible and inclusive hiring experience where all candidates can fully demonstrate their skills. If you require assistance or an accommodation at any point, please email
