The Opportunity

This position works out of our Coyol Free Zone location in the Structural Heart Division. Our business purpose is to restore health and improve quality of life through the design and provision of device and management solutions for the treatment of structural heart disease.

As the Microbiology Technician IV, under minimal supervision and guidance, the individual will be responsible for coordinating and assigning laboratory weekly activities, managing laboratory supplies inventory, and providing technical expertise for technician training in microbiological test methods. The position is also responsible for laboratory equipment qualifications, new test method qualifications and continuous improvement of methods used. The primary focus of this position is to support the microbiology laboratory supervisor in administrative and logistics tasks of the microbiology laboratory.

What You’ll Do

 Assist microbiology laboratory supervisor

  • Assist supervisor in establishing laboratory goals and objectives.
  • Creating continuous improvement for laboratory methods and procedures.
  • Management and tracking of laboratory inventory, collect raw material samples if required and determine tests’ needs and create purchase orders accordingly.
  • Coordinate microbiology laboratory technician’s weekly tasks and prioritize according to business needs and requirements.  
  • Assist microbiology laboratory supervisor in laboratory investigations (OOS/GI)

Laboratory Equipment and Test Method qualifications 

  • Perform laboratory equipment qualification (write protocols and reports, performs, and oversees qualifications for new or existing equipment and test methods)
  • Creating documentation for new equipment/test method implementation (equipment specifications, software requirements specifications, modify existing test method procedures etc.).
  • Perform steam sterilization qualifications in the microbiology laboratory.
  • Maintain all required laboratory instruments and equipment validated.
  • Maintain all laboratory instruments requiring calibration, calibrated.
  • Assist in the validation of the manufacturing sterilizers, the CAE room and supporting systems and the water systems.

Training

  • Provide training for other technicians when required of laboratory methods
  • Determine if training is required for technicians per laboratory’s needs.
  • Ensure training materials are updated accordingly and appropriate personnel are trained

Perform test procedures in the microbiology lab and Environmental Monitoring

  • Perform sterility, endotoxin, bioburden, water sampling, environmental monitoring testing in the laboratory.
  • Material preparation for testing (packaging, cleaning, depyrogenation and sterilization of laboratory materials used for testing).
  • Perform Validation testing for product sterilization cycle and products test procedures.
  • Ensures that raw materials and finished product requiring testing are sampled and tested.
  • Record Equipment Monitoring System.
  • Perform and document the Test results (media liquid and media plates).
  • Accurate record keeping of lab procedures performed and their results.
  • Provide technical expertise, consultation, and project support for new product implementation in the laboratory.

Documentation

  • Accurate record keeping of lab procedures performed and their results.
  • Maintain and file all laboratory test data and reports.
  • Evaluate and maintain trend charts of environmental test data, water system, product tests and other microbiology related data.
  • Maintain traceability of clinical product used for testing

Level of authority

  • Review of laboratory documentation such as cleaning logs, steam sterilization logs, records of laboratory supplies, preventative maintenance records, supply receipt logs and other documentation that does not pertain clinical product release.

Required Qualifications

High School Degree and Laboratory assistant diploma Or 80% of completed bachelor’s degree, Microbiology, biology, chemistry, biotechnology, or related field.

More than 4 years’ experience in a Microbiology, Biotechnology, Chemistry or related Laboratory field are required.

Proficient in computer applications (MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint)

Experience in a microbiology, biology, biotechnology, chemistry or related laboratory field required.

Must have knowledge of laboratory equipment and test method qualifications

Knowledge in laboratory testing such as sterility testing, endotoxin, bioburden and environmental monitoring.
