Payroll Senior Manager  

Job Description 

DePuy Synthes is recruiting for a(n) Senior Manager, Payroll – EMEA/APAC, located in Manila, Philippines. 

Johnson & Johnson announced plans to separate our Orthopedics business to establish a standalone orthopedics company, operating as DePuy Synthes. The process of the planned separation is anticipated to be completed within 18 to 24 months, subject to legal requirements, including consultation with works councils and other employee representative bodies, as may be required, regulatory approvals and other customary conditions and approvals. Should you accept this position, it is anticipated that, following conclusion of the transaction, you would be an employee of DePuy Synthes and your employment would be governed by DePuy Synthes employment processes, programs, policies, and benefit plans. Summary 

 

The Payroll Senior Manager leads other Managers, Supervisors, and/or individual contributors in a matrix environment, and is accountable for conducting effective performance management and meaningful career development conversations. Oversees payroll administration activities such as record keeping, tax compliance, and deductions. Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, and leads payroll teams to deliver timely, accurate pay runs that comply with company policies and regulations. They also manage team to ensure accuracy and timely reporting. 

 

The Payroll Senior Manager is responsible for: 

 

  • Leads the Payroll team in creating and implementing internal controls and execution of controls in accordance with policy. 

  • Oversee the preparation of a variety of Payroll-related documents and processes including compliance requirements and audit. 

  • Oversee the Payroll disbursement process for employees of the organization. 

  • Communicates with a variety of internal and external parties for the purpose of ensuring accurate processing of Payroll deductions and garnishments. 

  • Oversee internal Payroll audits and support external regulatory financial audit, workers' comp, and retirement plan audits. 

  • Maintains relationships with local and international third-party Payroll service providers. 

  • Responsible for managing operational aspects of their team (e.g., workflow, performance, and compliance), as well as ensuring achievement of team goals within established timelines and budgets. 

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for problem resolution, ensuring deadlines are met and alignment between business and operations teams. 

  • Manage stakeholders—with emphasis on local senior stakeholders—by aligning expectations, mediating conflicts, and collaborating to meet business objectives. 

  • Lead and manage a matrixed team of managers, supervisors and individual contributors, owning performance management, career development conversations, resource allocation, and  

  • Oversee end-to-end payroll processing and controls, directing Payroll teams to ensure timely and accurate payroll cycles using country-specific payroll solutions or vendors. 

  • Lead the design, implementation and execution of internal controls in accordance with country policies. 

  • Manage payroll project implementation, transitions, system changes, enhancements, testing, and continuous improvement initiatives in partnership with Project Teams. 

  • Support and coordinate system implementations and changes, ensuring accurate data flow between systems and appropriate recording of payroll accounting entries to the general ledger. 

  • Prepare, maintain and oversee payroll documentation, records and audit trails (electronic and written) to meet compliance and audit requirements. 

  • Maintain all compliance requirements for assigned payroll processes and support internal, external (PwC), pension and government audits as needed. 

  • Develop and maintain internal and external communications for specific payroll processes. 

  • Represent the payroll function in local, regional and global forums (e.g., President’s Council, Campus Council, One HR, Finance Council, Talent Forum) 

  • Promote continuous learning, customer service improvements, and integrate Credo and Leadership Imperatives into team goals and decision-making. 

  • Perform other duties assigned by Regional and Global Leadership. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS: 

  • A minimum of 8 years of prior experience in Payroll, HR and Labor routines.  

  • A minimum of 5 years in a Management/People Leader role is required  

  • Experience with Managing People and cross-country teams, Senior Stakeholders and overall Payroll Operations. 

  • A clear, fast thinker, problem solver, able to translate business needs into pragmatic solutions and implement them 

  • Able to work effectively in a multi-functional, multi-cultural environment and be open to change and the challenges that arise in a fast-moving environment 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to connect with customers, peers, and vendors. 

  • Fluency in English written, and verbal communication is required. 

  • A sense of urgency in solving customer inquiries and requests to ensure timely resolution and an ability to work effectively under pressure. 

  • Strong ability to lead, handle, mentor, and delegate as appropriate by disseminating knowledge and techniques. 

  • Ability to influence others, identify problems and recommend course of actions. 

  • Ability to work efficiently and productively, independently or with minimal direction.
