The Medical Assistant III in the Department of Medicine Infectious Disease will coordinate patient flow by greeting and interacting with patients, obtaining vital signs, preparing and documenting patient information in the chart, and assisting providers during exams. The Medical Assistant III will also perform or order necessary procedures (EKGs, urinalysis, injections, throat swabs, etc.). This role will also assist in scheduling appointments, obtaining pre-authorizations, referrals, and patient follow-up. The Medical Assistant III will participate in tracking performance measures and in quality improvement initiatives within the Ryan White grant framework.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Greet and escort patients to exam rooms; obtain vital signs, collect pertinent social and prior hospitalization history, reconcile medications, and follow up on tasks and contact patients regarding test results as directed by providers.
Document patient information in the chart. Document pertinent performance measures and participate in quality improvement initiatives.
Facilitate patient flow for the Ryan White 550 Clinic, including registration, scheduling, follow-up, HIV prevention, and patient counseling.
Perform or order procedures (EKGs, urinalysis, injections, throat swabs) to obtain specimens for testing.
Obtain pre-authorizations/pre-certifications and schedule referrals. Follow up on referral compliance.
Stock exam rooms and organize supplies.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
Fluency in multiple languages is a plus.
Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
