This is a hands‑on, technically focused role suited to engineers who enjoy working on complex plant and want long‑term stability, development, and support from a national engineering network.

What you’ll be doing

In this mobile service role, you’ll take ownership of the maintenance, fault‑finding, and repair of industrial‑size chillers and refrigeration systems across customer sites. You’ll be a key technical point of contact, trusted to diagnose issues, carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM), and respond to breakdowns efficiently and safely.

Your day‑to‑day will include:

  • Servicing, maintaining, and repairing industrial refrigeration and chiller plant
  • Carrying out PPM and reactive call‑outs
  • Diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and control faults
  • Producing clear service reports and recommending improvements
  • Ensuring all work is completed safely, compliantly, and to a high standard
  • Working independently on site while collaborating closely with the wider service team

What we offer

  • Competitive salary plus attractive standby allowance (1 in 7)
  • Regular overtime opportunities
  • Local working patch – Sunderland and surrounding areas, with some work toward Leeds (minimised travel)
  • Fully equipped service vehicle, mobile phone, tablet, PPE, and specialist tools
  • 25 days holiday + bank holidays (holiday purchase available)
  • Pension, life assurance, employee discounts, referral scheme, cycle‑to‑work
  • Strong focus on training, upskilling, and long‑term career progression
  • A safety‑first culture with full support from a national engineering organisation

What we’re looking for

  • Refrigeration apprenticeship or equivalent qualification
  • Proven experience working on industrial refrigeration and large‑scale chillers
  • Experience with HFC systems and ideally ammonia and/or CO₂
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics, piping diagrams, and system layouts
  • F‑Gas 2079 and ammonia handling certification
  • Familiarity with major OEMs such as SABROE, Frick, York, Bitzer, Howden
  • Strong diagnostic skills and a proactive, customer‑focused mindset
  • Full UK driving licence
