About the role
Student IT Help Desk Technician
The School of Education and Human Development (EHD) at the University of Virginia seeks a Student IT Help Desk Technician to provide frontline technical support to faculty and staff, up to 25 hours per week.
This position is for summer 2026 but may continue in the fall based on performance and availability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide first-tier technical support for hardware, software, connectivity, and printing issues in a timely and professional manner
- Triage, document, and escalate support requests using the ticketing system (walk-ins, phone, email, and automated requests)
- Assist with system setup, upgrades, and deployments across Windows, macOS, and mobile devices
- Support printer operations, including paper restocking and toner replacement
- Perform routine maintenance tasks such as cardboard recycling and workspace upkeep
- Conduct weekly preventative checks of classrooms and conference room AV systems
- Manage and maintain loaner hardware inventory for faculty and staff
- Assist users with common access needs, including digital certificate installation
Qualifications:
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills
- Basic knowledge of Windows, macOS, and mobile platforms
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and provide excellent customer service

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
