Job Summary

Responsible for defining and executing the global strategy for the software engineering toolchain that supports development teams across the company. This role is to ensure that our shared supporting tools are modern, reliable, and optimized for productivity at scale.

As a partner to R&D and Engineering Managers, the Toolchain 0- Lead Engineer combines strong technical expertise with a product ownership mindset to identify needs, set priorities, and deliver high‑impact improvements. The role drives the end‑to‑end roadmap for tools used in planning, coding, testing, building, securing, and deploying software, ensuring a seamless and consistent developer experience across teams and regions.

The ideal candidate is a tech‑savvy problem solver with a passion for software engineering excellence. They thrive in a global environment, collaborate effectively with stakeholders, and elevate engineering capabilities by enabling teams to build high‑quality software faster and more efficiently.

Key Areas of Responsibility
• Defines functional specifications for digital service creation and management. Coordinates with development teams to translate requirements into technical solutions.
* Defines quality criteria & oversees validation of digital services to ensure compliance with business needs.
• Acts/Resolves on the observations emerging from digital service performance and proposes enhancements for continuous improvement.
• Documents processes and maintains up-to-date records of functional design changes
• Enables teams via guidelines, tooling & coaching and support to end-users on new or updated functionalities.
• Contribute to functional and domain knowledge and skills to the team to turn user stories into a working toolchain and optimize business experience.
• Translates business requirements into IT solutions to optimize business experience.
• Analyse & solve problems to ensure complex issues are resolved efficiently within the governance framework.
• Proactively share knowledge and experiences in focus groups, with colleagues from own and other teams with a similar technical and/or functional focus.
• Acts as the trusted advisor for R&D as well as Digital stakeholders

• Collaborates at a functional level with involved suppliers/vendors in their domain.

Cost management of the tools in scope

Critical Experiences
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Hands -on experience in software engineering toolchain / IT solutions, focusing on translating business Software Engineering team needs into working Tool configuration.

• Solution decision‑making

• Multi‑team / global technical alignment
• Supplier/Vendor collaboration and Cost management
• Certification in Agile methodologies such as Scrum Master or Product Owner is good- to-have for effective collaboration and project management.

KPI's

• Successful delivery of releases/changes: right quality/ on time/ in line with scope
• Continuous improvement programs executed according to plan.
• Platform reliability,  IT performance in line with agreed service levels.

• Developer experience / adoption and usage optimization

Grading Differentiators

• Expert knowledge of relevant work in design, build of functional solutions.
• Works as a lead engineer, on the functional overview with a clear vision of the roadmap for their respective applications and processes.
• May lead a mid team size.
• Influence on services with a yearly cost of € 2.2- 3.3M.
