Description of Work
The Peer Mentor / HCT-II is responsible for conducting the unit orientation, on-the-job precepting, providing on-on-one support, and the completion of unit-based non-nursing procedure checklists for new HCT’s. As a function of precepting new staff, the Peer Mentor/ HCT-II is responsible for providing direct observations resulting in the identification of needed remedial development and support as the new employee learns his/her job skills and successfully adjusts to the OBNMTC work culture. The Peer Mentor / HCT-II will be responsible for assisting the Floor Shift Nurse Supervisor in meeting staff ratios, filling resource needs, and preventing staff shortages as defined by Nursing policy when not actively mentoring new staff, may be required to flex shifts to meet the need of the facility and mentor new staff, rotate to other buildings, and provide direct resident care. This position is considered mandatory, which means that employees are required to report to work during adverse weather and emergency conditions.Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
Salary Grade: $32,444 - $48,665
Recruitment Range: $39,312 - $43,302
A Sign-on Bonus of $2,500 may be offered to the successful applicant(s) of this posting, contingent on the 202-2026 Budget Approval.

The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:
Ability to train and mentor adults in group and one-on-one settings.
Demonstrated skills in working directly with individuals with the population served, Alzheimer's disease, psychiatric illness, on-going healthcare needs, dementia, issues of aging, or other health related fields.
Ability to effectively convey information to family members, individuals, and treatment team, under general supervision, in verbal and written forms.
Ability to document clear and concise notes of client progress and behaviors.
Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
Management Preference:
Experience providing direct care and person-centered support to residents with complex physical, intellectual, medical and behavioral needs.
This Position Is Designated As Mandatory And Must Report Or Stay Over During Adverse Weather Events.
We are currently recruiting for one Peer Mentor position. The assigned shift is 3:00pm-11:30pm (C-Shift).
Eligibility for Sign-on Bonus
To qualify for the Sign-on Bonus, a newly hired permanent full-time or permanent part-time employee must work 30 to 40 hours per week to be eligible. Those who are eligible and working less than 40 hours a week will receive a prorated rate.
An employee is not eligible for a sign-on bonus if:
The employee has held a position in the North Carolina State government, including the judicial system, or the University of North Carolina system, within the last 12 months (the employee shall remain ineligible for 12 months from the separation date)
The employee has previously received a sign-on bonus from any State agency
DHHS has paid any contract placement or recruitment fees.

Veteran’s and National Guard Preference
