About the role
Staff RN is an integral part of the Addiction Treatment Center (ATC) at The University of Vermont Medical Center. The ATC provides a range of evidence-based outpatient services to people with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions, including individual counseling, intensive group-based therapy, psychiatric assessment, and medication management.
The RN works as part of the multi-disciplinary team to support patients in the assessment and treatment process as well as providing care coordination to assist stable patients in transitioning to lower levels of care.
The main responsibilities of the RN include but are not limited to:
- assessing patient vitals and withdrawal symptoms,
- coordinating patient care,
- supporting physicians in prescribing medications for opioid, alcohol and tobacco use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions,
- serving as main liaison with toxicology labs and pharmacies,
- ensuring patients have their prescribed medications by coordinating with pharmacies and completing prior authorizations,
- administering injectable medications,
- monitoring patient progress in treatment through urine drug testing and prescription monitoring and documenting/communicating results,
- triaging patient calls,
- providing patient education,
- engaging in multi-disciplinary rounds to determine patient care plans, and
- coordinating the contingency management program and administering point-of-care testing.
Experience
- Three years of relevant RN experience with demonstrated competencies specific to behavioral health.
- Experience working in the field of substance use disorders preferred.
On-call: Not required.
