The pay range is $95,000.00 - $171,000.00

As a Marketplace Lead Strategist, you will support multiyear Marketplace growth through data-driven strategy and innovative business design. You will join a high-impact team dedicated to shaping multiyear growth initiatives for Target’s Marketplace. The role will blend rigorous, consulting-style strategy with forward-thinking business design to unlock new opportunities and remove barriers to growth. You will lead complex, strategy-driven engagements that address structural roadblocks and reimagine the future of the business. You will apply deep understanding of retail trends, competitive dynamics, and evolving guest expectations to develop innovative concepts and formats for an increasingly dynamic omnichannel landscape—ensuring every Marketplace strategy is grounded in data, insights, and disciplined decision-making. As a Lead Strategist, you will work strategically and collaboratively to identify and evaluate new and existing opportunities to strengthen our overall strategy. This could include but is not limited to:

  • Leading Multiyear Business Opportunity Articulation: Drive long-range Marketplace growth by partnering with research to identify critical consumer pain points and unmet needs, synthesizing insights into actionable opportunity areas, and translating them into solution concepts. Lead leadership working sessions to align on priorities and apply influence to enable sound, timely decision-making. Utilize qualitative and quantitative data to evaluate strategic initiatives across desirability, feasibility, and viability. Collaborate closely with enterprise finance and cross-functional partners to rigorously size and scope opportunities, building confidence in achieving Marketplace’s long-term financial objectives.

  • Empowering Marketplace strategic decisioning through sharing robust insights and data: Partner with Enterprise Insights & Strategic Intelligence, UX, and Product teams to embed guest insights, competitive intelligence, and emerging market trends into all levels of the Marketplace strategy. Translate complex inputs into clear, actionable narratives and frameworks that enable alignment, informed decision-making, and shared understanding across Marketplace teams.

  • Marketplace planning and governance process: Lead program management for critical milestones and outcomes to ensure annual planning processes are executed with rigor, clarity, and alignment across Marketplace leadership and cross-functional teams. Orchestrate planning routines that position Marketplace to proactively drive its growth agenda. Inspire and coordinate teams and internal cross-functional partners to deliver against shared objectives, fostering strong collaboration across Marketplace and enterprise stakeholders. Exercise influence without direct authority to guide strategic decision-making, providing structure, prioritization, and clarity that accelerates progress against key business priorities.

  • Lead ad hoc strategic initiatives using a sprint-based methodology to rapidly frame opportunities, generate solution concepts, quantify business impact, assess current-state capabilities, and conduct gap analyses. Develop data-informed recommendations to evaluate and advance new and emerging growth opportunities for Marketplace, tailoring approach and rigor based on the scope, complexity, and strategic significance of each engagement.

About you:

  • Four-year degree or equivalent experience

  • 5+ years of experience with at least 3+ years concentrated within the field of strategy strongly preferred

  • Strong project management, cross-functional leadership, and collaboration skills with an ability to work effectively with people at all levels and across pyramids

  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills with a strong ability to tell compelling business and results stories

  • Innate curiosity and desire to learn with a strong inclination to drive for results in ambiguous spaces

  • Ability to take right partners at the right time, influence without authority, and to collaborate in a team environment

  • Consulting experience preferred

This position will operate as a Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement based on Target’s needs. A Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement means the team member’s core role will need to be performed both onsite at the Target HQ MN location the role is assigned to and virtually, depending upon what your role, team and tasks require for that day.
