About the role
The Systems Modeling Engineer will develop and maintain performance models and calculation engines for water‑cooled chiller systems.
This role focuses on engineering calculations and numerical model implementation, supporting system performance calculations for water-cooled chillers. The successful candidate will apply strong fundamentals in heat transfer, thermodynamics, and numerical methods to develop, validate, and optimize HVAC/R system models, working closely with global engineering and product teams.
Key Responsibilities
As a Systems Modeling Engineer, you'll be responsible for:
- Develop and maintain HVAC system and component calculation models, including:
- Model requirement definition
- Test plan development
- Verification and validation
- Implement engineering algorithms and numerical methods to support performance prediction and product behavior
- Develop and maintain calculation software in Fortran-based and C#)
- Collaborate with Marketing, Product Development Engineering, and global teams to translate customer and product requirements into engineering models
- Ensure model accuracy, robustness, and maintainability through validation and continuous improvement
- Document modeling assumptions, methods, and results for traceability and knowledge sharing
Requirements
We are looking for people who are skilled on leading technical efforts or define modeling / calculation approaches for complex engineering systems. If this is you, get in touch.
As a minimum you must have:
- University Degree or equivalent
- A minimum of 7 years prior relevant experience or an advanced degree in a related field and a minimum of 5 years' experience.
- Strong fundamentals in:
- Heat transfer
- Thermodynamics
- Numerical methods
- Nonlinear equation systems
- Experience with thermal-fluid system modeling
- Hands-on programming experience in Fortran and C# (preferred) or similar numerical languages (C/C++, Java)
- Experience developing or maintaining engineering calculation models or simulation tools
- Experience in HVAC/R, power systems, or related equipment domain
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical efforts or define modeling / calculation approaches for complex engineering systems
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to collaborate across global, cross-functional teams
- Ability to work independently on technical problems while contributing to team objectives
Although not necessary, it would be nice if you have:
- Experience maintaining legacy engineering calculation codebases
- Experience developing multi-language solutions across modeling and software systems
- Familiarity with optimization techniques or product configuration tools
- Experience mentoring or guiding junior engineers
