About the role
Company:
The Boeing CompanyBoeing Australia is currently seeking to recruit a Gameplay Developer to be based in our Brisbane location in a hybrid capacity.
Boeing Global Services is looking for a Game Developer to build high-fidelity visualizations and training applications for commercial pilot training. In this role, you will leverage deep expertise in Unreal Engine and production pipelines to create realistic, performant visual assets that support engineers, pilots and analysts. You will act as the vital bridge between artists, engineers and software developers, delivering the tools and workflows that enable rapid iteration in a highly regulated, safety-critical environment.
Why choose game development in aerospace?
Here, projects are long-lived and continue to evolve after delivery, offering stable teams with consistent ownership over systems. You will have meaningful influence over technical direction and the time to make considered engineering and design decisions, rather than just shipping quickly. Most importantly, your work connects directly to real-world use cases and critical aerospace operations.
Due to the International nature of the role and business as a whole, there may be the requirement to support after hours meetings and calls, however flexibility is encouraged. Some domestic or international travel may be required.
About the Role:
- Rapidly prototype interactive features (such as instrument controls and flight-dynamics logic) using C++ and Blueprints.
- Design modular, testable gameplay frameworks including input handling, state machines and physics.
- Build in-engine editor extensions and custom data-driven configuration panels to support development workflows.
- Conduct performance profiling (CPU/GPU, memory) to ensure stability on high-end PCs and Head-Mounted Displays (HMDs).
- Support automated testing and build pipelines within an Agile CI/CD workflow.
- Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to integrate complex gameplay systems into large-scale simulations.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)
- 3+ years of professional experience as a Gameplay or Software Engineer.
- Expert proficiency in Unreal Engine 5 (C++, Blueprints, Gameplay Framework, and Profiling tools).
- Proven track record building complex gameplay systems (input, UI, physics, AI, and networked components).
- Demonstrated ability to optimize performance for desktop and VR/AR platforms (memory management, LOD, and multithreading).
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to create technical documentation and runbooks.
- Applicants must hold Australian Permanent Residency or above
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)
- Direct experience with flight-simulation or pilot-training domains, including knowledge of avionics or sensor modelling.
- Familiarity with VR/AR/XR hardware and performance constraints on mobile or iOS devices.
- Background working in regulated or safety-critical environments (aerospace, automotive, or medical).
- Experience working in Agile development environments.
- Experience with networked or multiplayer components specifically for simulation or game projects.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Game Development, or a related field.
