About the role

The Information Security Office (InfoSec) is looking for individuals from all majors to help educate users on cybersecurity, gain experience working in a Security Operations Center (SOC), and assist in improving processes to analyze security data. We are always looking for good candidates and will hire on an as-needed basis. This position is available to full-time UVA undergraduate and/or graduate students.

The Operations Team is looking for someone with IT skills who would like experience working alongside UVA’s information security operations team.  Specifically, we would like someone who has a very good understanding of an operating system (e.g. Windows, Mac OS, Linux, etc) and excellent analytical skills.

Tasks would include:

  • Monitor security alerts and notices
  • Triage incoming security incidents
  • Identify compromised systems using various security tools
  • Follow documented procedures for incident resolution
  • Provide assistance on IT projects as needed
  • Work closely with InfoSec operations analysts to improve and/or automate many of our security processes

Pay rate: $16/hour

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
