Consultant Psychiatrist – Full Time (37.5 hours) | Women’s Secure Services
Specialist Register: Forensic Psychiatry or General Adult Psychiatry
Setting: Women’s medium/low secure inpatient service
Overview
An established and well-respected secure mental health service is seeking a full-time Consultant Psychiatrist to join its women’s service. You will be part of a highly experienced medical department within a stable, supportive organisation known for excellent MDT collaboration, strong clinical leadership, and high-quality patient outcomes.
The role involves providing Consultant-level psychiatric care to adult women with complex mental health needs within a secure setting. You will have the choice of leading either a medium secure or low secure ward, depending on your preference and experience.
The hospital is located in a highly accessible North West region with excellent motorway links, making it commutable from multiple major cities.
Key Responsibilities

Lead the clinical care of a women’s secure ward (medium or low secure)

Deliver comprehensive psychiatric assessment, formulation, and treatment

Work collaboratively with the MDT to ensure high-quality, recovery-focused care

Engage in service development, governance, and quality improvement work

Provide assessments for referrals to determine appropriate placement

Prepare and deliver written and oral evidence for Tribunal and Managers’ hearings

Participate in a low-frequency second-on-call rota (approx. 1 in 17 for full-time clinicians)

Optional paid first-on-call shifts available, with time back in lieu
Requirements
-
Full GMC registration
-
MRCPsych (or equivalent)
-
On the GMC Specialist Register (or within 6 months) for Forensic or General Adult Psychiatry

Section 12 approval and Approved Clinician status

Experience managing complex mental health presentations in secure or acute settings

Strong MDT-working skills and an interest in service development
