Job Description
At Cloudflare, we are on a mission to help build a better Internet. Today the company runs one of the world’s largest networks that powers millions of websites and other Internet properties for customers ranging from individual bloggers to SMBs to Fortune 500 companies. Cloudflare protects and accelerates any Internet application online without adding hardware, installing software, or changing a line of code. Internet properties powered by Cloudflare all have web traffic routed through its intelligent global network, which gets smarter with every request. As a result, they see significant improvement in performance and a decrease in spam and other attacks. Cloudflare was named to Entrepreneur Magazine’s Top Company Cultures list and ranked among the World’s Most Innovative Companies by Fast Company.
At Cloudflare, we’re not looking for people who wait for a polished roadmap; we’re looking for the builders who see the cracks in the Internet that everyone else has simply learned to live with. We value candidates who have the instinct to spot a "normalized" problem and the AI-native curiosity to create a solution using the latest tools. Our culture is built on iteration, leveraging AI to ship faster today to make it better tomorrow, while ensuring that every improvement, no matter how small, is shared across the team to lift everyone up. If you’re the type of person who values curiosity over bureaucracy, and that AI is a partner in solving tough problems to keep the Internet moving forward, you’ll fit right in.

About the Role
We’re looking for a creative and technical Platform Design Engineer to join our Platform Engineering team. This role is central to advancing our Platform + Design initiatives, tackling key customer pain points, and delivering high-quality, scalable experiences across all of Cloudflare. You will be a critical bridge between design and engineering, turning ambitious concepts into production-ready code and making high-impact improvements to areas that span our entire product suite.
You’ll partner closely with the Design organization to scope, build, and ship everything from large-scale strategic overhauls to foundational design patterns and fixes to customer experiences. This role is perfect for a frontend-focused engineer who has a passion for design, a strong eye for detail, and a desire to build systems that empower other developers.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement Strategic UX Overhauls: Partner with Design to execute high-impact projects, such as overhauling company-wide interaction patterns, standardizing templates, or re-imagining dynamic customer journeys.
- Build Foundational Design Patterns: Engineer, update, and maintain reusable components and patterns that accelerate feature delivery for all product teams.
- Contribute to the Design System: Ensure new and updated patterns are scalable, performant, and contributed back to our internal design systems for global use.
- Explore "North Star" Concepts: Pair directly with designers to explore future-state "North Star" proposals, building prototypes in both Figma and code to validate ideas and inform future roadmaps.
- Targeted UX enhancements: Triage, prioritize (with design), and rapidly fix small enhancements, polish items, and bugs reported by customers and internal teams.
- Add Polish and Enhancements: Elevate the user experience by adding thoughtful microinteractions and polish to components and core workflows.

- React, TypeScript, JavaScript (ES6+), Webpack, Figma, Miro
