About the role

The Regional Controller is a high-visibility, critical leadership role serving as the primary Operational and FP&A champion for Atlantic Canada. Acting as the trusted business partner to the Regional Vice President, you will deliver strategic guidance and operational insights that drive efficiency, profitability, and smart growth. You will own the financial integrity of the region and directly lead, mentor, and inspire our regional finance team.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Leadership & Reporting

  • Accuracy & Integrity: Ensure total consistency, accuracy, and completeness across all regional financial results and operational statistics.

  • Forecasting & Budgeting: Manage the comprehensive monthly forecasting process and lead the annual regional budget development in collaboration with local General Managers.

  • The Month-End Close: Oversee the financial close process, ensuring timely submission of statements, reviewing journal entries/reconciliations, overseeing customer billing, and providing deep-dive variance analysis.

  • Compliance & Governance: Enforce rigorous compliance with company financial policies, internal controls, and standard operating procedures. Support internal and external audit processes.

Strategic Business Partnership

  • Executive Advisor: Partner closely with the Regional VP and senior leadership to evaluate business opportunities, identify financial risks, and model scenarios for data-driven decisions.

  • Corporate Alignment: Align local operational objectives with corporate financial targets and champion the rollout of corporate initiatives.

  • M&A Support: Facilitate the smooth integration of financial systems, processes, and policies for new business acquisitions.

  • Commercial Growth: Lead the financial review of major tender bids in tandem with Operations, preparing high-impact presentations for executive approval.

Training & Team Development

  • Upskilling Teams: Provide ongoing leadership and training to the finance team to foster continuous improvement and career growth.

  • Cross-Functional Coaching: Educate operational staff on proper coding practices to ensure flawless classification of revenue and expenses.

Education & Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration. CPA certification is highly advantageous.

  • Experience: 5–10 years of progressive experience in an operations-focused Controller or senior FP&A leadership role within a medium-to-large business.

  • Industry Background: Experience in solid waste, transportation, logistics, or similar asset-intensive, multi-location service industries is strongly preferred.

Technical Skills & Competencies

  • Systems Savvy: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office/Excel and strong functional IT skills. Experience with Workday Finance, TM1 Cognos, TRUX, M5, or Google Workspace is a major asset.

  • Executive Presence: Ability to synthesize complex financial data into clear, actionable narratives for non-financial executive leadership.

  • Soft Skills: High integrity, strategic mindset, exceptional relationship-building skills, and the agility to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Working Conditions & Travel

  • Modern office environment.

  • Travel Requirements: Frequent travel throughout the Atlantic Canada region, with occasional travel to Corporate offices in Canada and the USA.
