About the role

Messy spend management is tricky business. And tedious processes are a lose-lose situation for all involved, not just finance. At Pleo, we're changing that. We build spend solutions that make managing money seamless, empowering, and surprisingly effective for finance teams and employees alike—with a vision to help all businesses ‘go beyond’.

The word ‘Pleo’ actually means ‘more than you’d expect’, and living by that mantra has been the secret to our success over the last 10 years.

Now, we’re at a pivotal moment in our journey; every move we make has a direct impact on our 40,000+ customers, our business, and our collective success. We need people who take pride in uncovering customer needs, who turn complex problems into simple solutions, challenge the way things are done (respectfully), and always aim high. With great ambitions driving us forward, we can’t say we’ve got this whole thing figured out. And frankly, that’s half the fun! What we can say is that we’re a driven, progressive, and, importantly, a kind bunch of 850+ people from over 100 nationalities, all committed to delivering the future of business spending, together.

We're looking for a Legal Counsel to join our Legal team at Pleo. You may also have recently finished your bar exam or be a third year assistant attorney in which case you would be able to continue your education with us.

In this role, you'll help with corporate law, setting up a new governance structure and be part of the Legal team as we scale our legal services at Pleo. If you're excited about corporate governance, financial regulation, assisting with Board meetings, and corporate law and are passionate about creating new structures and shaping them with your own personal touch, then this is the opportunity for you!

  • Advice on corporate law, governance matters, shareholder topics, and structural changes.
  • Drive corporate housekeeping and entity management across the group, including incorporations, restructurings, capital changes, and maintenance of statutory records.
  • Partner closely with Finance, Compliance, and other stakeholders to ensure high-quality decision-making materials and clear governance processes.
  • Continuously improve governance processes and efficiency, ensuring that Board and committee work is structured, transparent, and adding value.

What you bring

You’ll thrive in this role if you have:

  • A strong foundation in corporate and company law, with solid experience in board work, governance frameworks, and shareholder matters.
  • Hands-on experience supporting Boards and committees, including drafting high-quality board materials and minutes, and advising senior stakeholders.
  • A structured and detail-oriented mindset, with the ability to manage multiple entities, deadlines, and governance cycles simultaneously.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the confidence to engage with senior leadership and Board members in a clear and pragmatic manner.
  • The ability to balance legal precision with commercial pragmatism, understanding when to escalate and when to propose practical solutions.
  • Experience in a regulated environment (e.g., financial services, fintech, payments) is a strong advantage.

Who you’ll be working with and reporting to:

You’ll report to our Associate Director, Legal and work closely with our General Counsel and teams in Finance and Compliance. You’ll also have the chance to partner with teams across other departments within Pleo. Our teams are highly collaborative and dedicated to working together for the success of the company.

How you’ll develop in this role
