About the Role

We are looking for a technically strong Product Owner to help shape the future of SmartBear’s product Swagger. You will partner with Product Management, Engineering, UX, Documentation, and Go-to-Market teams to deliver modern API lifecycle experiences, developer tooling, and AI-powered workflows. This role combines product ownership, customer discovery, platform strategy, and AI innovation to drive measurable customer outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and prioritize the product backlog, balancing customer needs, technical feasibility, business value, and strategic objectives.
  • Partner closely with Product Management, Engineering, UX, Documentation, and GTM teams to deliver exceptional API lifecycle experiences.
  • Define product requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, and success metrics aligned to measurable customer outcomes.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to deliver secure, scalable, and reliable SaaS and on-premises solutions.
  • Work directly with customers and internal stakeholders to understand workflows, pain points, and emerging industry trends.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage AI, automation, and intelligent workflows to improve developer productivity and API governance.
  • Partner with technical writers to ensure features, APIs, integrations, and AI capabilities are effectively documented.
  • Support go-to-market activities including release planning, enablement, launch readiness, and customer communications.
  • Analyze usage data, customer feedback, and market trends to inform prioritization and product direction.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in Product Ownership, Product Management, Software Engineering, QA, DevOps, Solutions Engineering, or a related technical role.
  • Strong understanding of API development and lifecycle management, including design, testing, documentation, governance, security, and consumption.
  • Experience working with SaaS and/or enterprise on-premises software products.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within Agile product development environments.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence both technical and business stakeholders.
  • Experience collaborating with engineering, UX, documentation, support, sales, and marketing teams.
  • Passion for developer tooling, platform products, and developer experience.
  • Experience defining product requirements for technical audiences and translating customer needs into actionable engineering work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with AI platforms such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, Azure AI, or similar technologies.
  • Familiarity with MCP architecture, AI tool ecosystems, and agent interoperability standards.
  • Experience in the API Industry and knowledge of API Protocol including OpenAPI, AsyncAPI, GraphQL, and API governance solutions.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and cloud-native architectures.
  • Experience working on developer platforms, documentation products, or API lifecycle management solutions.
