Position Summary
The Expedite Engineering Manager leads a specialized electrical design team focused on the efficient execution of engineering designs. This role ensures timely, accurate delivery of IEM electrical design packages, supporting reliable project execution and reinforcing IEM’s reputation for quality, consistency, and dependable delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead a centralized Expedite Engineering team focused on rapid delivery of electrical design packages
- Define, document, and maintain clear technical boundaries, eligibility criteria, and guardrails for expedited engineering offerings
- Partner closely with Sales, Applications, and Product teams to support front-end opportunities with fast, repeatable design solutions
- Ensure expedited designs meet defined turnaround targets while complying with IEM standards, codes, and certification requirements
- Serve as the escalation point for expedited requests that exceed defined criteria, guiding appropriate transition to standard engineering workflows
- Directly manage, coach, and mentor Electrical Design Engineers, fostering a culture of urgency, accountability, and technical excellence
- Set and manage performance expectations related to speed, quality, communication, and standards adherence
- Plan team capacity, skill mix, and coverage to effectively support fluctuating expedite demand
- Review and approve expedited engineering deliverables, balancing speed with accuracy and risk management
- Enforce strict use of approved standard components, architectures, and design templates to minimize variability and rework
- Collaborate with Design Leads to validate technical approaches and refine standards as needed
- Coordinate with Program Management, Tools & Systems, and Quality to align expedited workflows with enterprise processes
- Drive continuous improvement by identifying opportunities for increased standardization, automation, tooling, and scalable front-end engineering practices
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (required)
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical design engineering for switchgear, power distribution equipment, or similar products
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in an engineering leadership, supervisory, or team-lead role
- Deep technical knowledge of low- and medium-voltage switchgear systems
- Strong understanding of standardization, modular design, and design-to-criteria execution
- Working knowledge of NRTL certifications, UL standards, and compliance requirements
- Strong leadership, collaboration, and communication skills, particularly with Sales and non-manufacturing stakeholders
- Results-driven mindset with comfort operating under aggressive turnaround expectations
Workplace Conditions
- Office-based engineering role; not plant-embedded
- Limited travel to IEM facilities or customer sites as required (typically less than 15%)
Compensation
The salary bands for this role is $153,600-$187,200 based on experience and qualifications.
