The Library Makerspace Student Assistant provides troubleshooting/technical service and support to users and staff of the Library Makerspace in the Rankin Family Pavilion.
Duties:
Library Makerspace service/support duties will include (but not limited to):
• Assisting Makerspace users with individual/group projects, curriculum-based assignments, general inquiries, and providing information to visitors;
• Monitoring the equipment and staffing the service point in the Library Makerspace;
• Checking in/checking out Makerspace equipment to students, faculty & staff;
• Performing routine maintenance on Makerspace equipment, as required;
• Participating in regularly scheduled Makerspace meetings;
• Participating in training sessions to learn about new Makerspace equipment;
• Roving throughout the Makerspace to discover unreported problems.
Qualifications:
• Comfortable with new and emerging technologies
• Able to learn complex concepts quickly
• Aware of digital prototyping hardware/software and emerging digital technologies, including (but not limited to):
- 3D printing software/hardware
- Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines & laser cutters
- Audio/video hardware and editing/creation software
- Single board computers and microcontrollers (Raspberry Pi, Arduino, etc)
- Virtual/augmented reality platforms
- Robotics
• Good working knowledge of:
- Computer hardware/peripherals
- Operating systems & Office applications
• Excellent problem solving abilities
• Commitment to exceptional customer service
• Comfortable speaking in front of small and large groups
• Comfortable leading tours and conducting impromptu workshops, if necessary
• Comfortable working with minimal supervision in an ever-changing environment
• Meticulous attention to detail
• Excellent communication and written skills
• Ability to efficiently organize work
• Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
Hourly rate: $17.60
