About the role

The Student Affairs Student Assistant supports the operations and engagement efforts of the UVA School of Education and Human Development's (EHD) Office of Student Affairs. Reporting to the Director of Student Affairs, this student employee provides essential support with office administration, programming, and event coordination throughout the academic year. This position is ideal for students interested in event planning, higher education, or student support services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Greet and assist office visitors; serve as a point of contact for student-facing inquiries.
  • Provide support with event logistics for programs such as Orientation, Welcome Week, Family Weekend, and other student engagement initiatives.
  • Prepare event materials and manage setup and breakdown for in-person programs.
  • Assist in maintaining student spaces, organizing office supplies, and updating promotional bulletin boards or digital signage.
  • Help prepare content for student newsletters, outreach campaigns, or communication materials.
  • Offer peer feedback during team meetings and help ensure the student voice is represented in programming.
  • Attend biweekly check-ins and required training sessions with the Director of Student Affairs.
  • Support occasional evening or weekend events as needed (with advance notice).


Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be currently enrolled full-time in a UVA EHD undergraduate, graduate, or minor program (online or in-person). Students with a federal work-study award are encouraged to apply.
  • Must be in good academic standing with a minimum 2.75 GPA from the most recently completed semester.
  • Demonstrated reliability, positive attitude, and strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in customer service, peer leadership, or event coordination.
  • Interest in higher education, student development, or related fields.
  • Familiarity with EHD student services and campus resources.
