Job Description:
Adolfson and Peterson Construction is currently hiring for a Staff Accountant to be based out of national and primary Midwest regional office located in Bloomington (moving soon to Edina).
The Staff Accountant supports accurate and timely financial reporting and accounting operations, including general ledger accounting, month-end close, account reconciliations, financial reporting and payroll support for both field and office team members. The Staff Account will partner with other teams to ensure accurate job cost, reporting, labor support, internal control compliance and timely financial information across the business.
Responsibilities:
- Take personal responsibility for working safely within an Incident and Injury Free (IIF) culture.
- Keep financial operations compliant with company expectations, processes, and controls by supporting corporate accounting operations and maintaining the integrity of the general ledger.
- Comply with internal financial processes.
- Prepare journal entries, accruals, reclasses and other recurring or non-routine accounting entries with appropriate support.
- Research requirements and complete set-up for new states as requested.
- Perform monthly reconciliation for prepaid expenses, fixed assets, Lease accounting, per diem/subsistence, accrued liabilities, payroll related accounts and other balance sheet accounts.
- Support timely and accurate month and year-end activities.
- Document and maintain standard operating procedures, process documentation and process workflows.
- Develop job aids, checklists and other materials to support consistent execution of accounting process.
- Identify opportunities to improve accuracy, efficiency, documentation and internal controls across accounting and payroll workflows.
- Provide labor and payroll support for both field and office employees.
- Review, track and process field per diem agreements and travel allowance policies ensuring strict compliance with IRS guidelines.
- Administer and track corporate and regional team member relocation agreements, coordinate expense reimbursements, credit cards and employee allowances. Review accuracy of third-party relocation service processing and reporting. Track taxable moving benefits.
- Process expenses for Corporate cards.
- Prepare or review payroll-related journal entries, reconciliations and allocations to jobs, departments and legal entities.
- Assist with payroll issue resolution, reporting requests, audits and compliance documentation.
- Provide back up to direct payroll processing.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- History of progressive accounting experience and proven results including:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
- 2+ years’ accounting experience, preferably in construction, contracting, job cost or other project-based environments.
- Experience with general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel and Word. Familiarity with construction accounting software preferred.
- Working knowledge of GAAP, internal controls and accounting processes.
- Ability to analyze data, investigate variances and prepare clear, accurate supporting schedules and reconciliations.
- Strong written, oral and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to work effectively with field and office personnel at all levels.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines and maintain a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated integrity, sound judgment, discretion and the ability to handle confidential employee and financial information.
- Accountable and follows through on commitments.
- Ability to travel to other regions on an infrequent basis.
