The Opportunity

This position is based at either our Abbott Park, IL, or Willis Tower, Chicago, IL location, supporting the Global Purchasing Services (GPS) Business Excellence team. The Senior Procurement Specialist leverages their experience to help implement best practices and support Source-to-Pay (S2P) strategies across GPS. This role involves collaborating with both internal and external stakeholders, as well as various Abbott Stakeholders and Divisions, to resolve issues and deliver exceptional customer service.

  • Operate within established processes and procedures, while also contributing to the development of new approaches for continuous improvement.
  • Proactively seek innovative ways to improve procurement processes and elevate customer service levels.
  • Develop a solid understanding of “One Procurement” strategies, gaining knowledge and experience across multiple categories to positively impact the team.

What You’ll Work On

PROJECT MANAGEMENT

  • Lead complex, crossfunctional initiatives from intake through stabilization by defining scope, objectives, timelines, dependencies, and success criteria.
  • Translate business needs into structured requirements and executable deliverables, ensuring alignment between business, functional, and technical teams.
  • Develop and maintain project plans, milestone tracking, risk assessments, and issue logs; proactively manage risks, interdependencies, and changes.
  • Coordinate readiness activities including requirements validation, testing, deployment preparation, and postimplementation support.
  • Apply change management principles to ensure effective adoption, including coordination of communications, training, and operational readiness.
  • Monitor progress against commitments, ensure quality standards are met, and drive timely resolution of gaps or defects.
  • Manage multiple concurrent S2P initiatives while maintaining discipline, documentation, prioritization, and transparency across global teams. 

PROCESS MANAGEMENT/IMPROVEMENT

  • Analyze currentstate procurement, supplier lifecycle, and buying channel processes to identify inefficiencies, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Design, document, and implement standardized, scalable process workflows, decision criteria, and governance models aligned to enterprise and S2P best practices.
  • Partner with technology and operational teams to ensure business processes are effectively enabled by systems and tools.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by contributing to system enhancements, testing activities, rollout planning, and postimplementation refinements.
  • Ensure process documentation, job aids, and training materials are accurate, updated, and aligned with deployed solutions.
  • Monitor process performance through feedback, metrics, and issue analysis to drive ongoing optimization and operational efficiency.

STAKEHOLDER MANAGEMENT

  • Act as a central coordination point across global Procurement, IT, Finance, Public Affairs, and regional teams to ensure alignment on priorities, timelines, and outcomes.
  • Lead and facilitate recurring working sessions, forums, and team meetings to drive transparency, accountability, and decisionmaking.
  • Communicate complex business and technical concepts clearly and effectively to diverse audiences, translating across functional perspectives.
  • Proactively manage stakeholder expectations by identifying risks early, surfacing tradeoffs, and enabling timely issue resolution.
  • Support global communication and training efforts by contributing to messaging, change materials, and adoption strategies.
  • Build strong, trusted relationships by modeling collaboration, responsiveness, and a solutionsoriented mindset across the organization.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree: Supply-Chain, Business, or Financial Degree
  • 2-5 years of Procurement and/or relevant experience
  • Understanding of Source to Pay technology and process like SAP Ariba or any other
  • Skilled in spreadsheet programs such as Excel, Smartsheets
  • Ability to create PowerPoint decks and presentations

Preferred Qualifications

  • SAP Ariba Source to Pay Technology Experience
  • Experience with Supplier Enablement and Qualification processes
  • Category Management / Strategy understanding
  • Self-Starter

$78,000.00 – $156,000.00
