About the role
Boston Dynamics is looking for a high-powered Engineering Program Manager to lead a team of project managers and drive the execution of our Mobile Robot Integrations. This is a flagship, high-visibility leadership role within our customer integration organization, accountable for both people leadership and execution excellence. You will oversee the delivery of 100+ Atlas robots to various customer sites, ensuring contractual uptime targets and large-scale data collection goals are met.
Operating in a highly matrixed environment, the ideal candidate will manage the transition from planning phases into global field execution, involving multiple mobile truck units and remote operation centers. You will act as the primary operational bridge between hardware engineering, behavior development, external research partners, and executive stakeholders. By defining project management standards and supporting team development, you will ensure that complex software integrations and high-level AI models are successfully and predictably deployed in diverse industrial environments.
Team Leadership & Strategic Alignment
People Leadership: Lead, mentor, and manage a team of engineering project managers focused on delivering complex robotics hardware/software integration programs.
Capacity & Health: Monitor team workload, capacity, and project health; provide guidance, remove obstacles, and ensure escalations are resolved efficiently.
Frameworks & Best Practices: Define project management standards, tools, and processes; drive continuous improvement and best practices adoption across the team.
Portfolio Planning: Contribute to roadmap and portfolio planning activities to ensure resource alignment and long-term deliverability.
Program Execution & Deployment
Facility Integration Oversight: Direct facility integration efforts, maintaining the technical depth to oversee (and engage in when necessary) construction management for site power, safety zones, charging infrastructure, and network deployment.
Schedule & Risk Management: Lead the overarching project schedule between customer and field applications engineering teams. Manage dependencies for multi-site deployments and high-frequency logistical "contingency planning"
Installation & Logistics: Oversee site installation operations, including material logistics, inventory tracking, schedule adherence, and subcontractor supervision for facility preparation.
Program Templates & Scaling: Define operational "Single Sources of Truth" (SSOT) and build large program-level templates and delivery models to scale operations from initial prototype units to the full robot fleet.
Cross-Functional Operations & Commercial Tracking
Technical Bridge: Serve as the voice of program management in leadership discussions. Interpret technical documentation (AutoCAD, electrical instructions, network diagrams) to manage mobile truck upfitting and system installation.
Revenue & RevOps Tracking: Take responsibility for identifying revenue milestone completion as it relates to the program plan and RevOps reporting requirements for multi-year service contracts.
Process Improvement: Partner with Systems Engineering and Finance to improve project execution processes and manage the billing logic tied to robot availability thresholds.
Critical Path Analysis: Calculate critical paths, identify installation roadblocks, isolate hardware/software root causes, and guide your team in moving solutions forward to protect data collection goals.
You Must Have:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Robotics, Systems, or a related technical field (Master’s or MBA preferred).
10+ years of experience in project/program management in fast-paced technology integration.
3+ years of direct people leadership, managing high-performing project/program management teams.
7+ years of specific experience involving mobile assets, field robotics, or complex interdisciplinary systems where hardware, software, and high-level AI/control architectures must be synchronized.
Deep understanding of robotics systems development and integration (mechanical, electrical, embedded, autonomy).
Expertise in various configuration management, portfolio tools, and ticket systems (Buganizer, JIRA, Smartsheet, Salesforce) to drive fleet-wide visibility and accountability.
Strong executive-level communication skills, with the ability to translate technical hardware blockers into clear operational status reports.
We Value:
PMP, PgMP, Agile, or equivalent delivery methodology certifications.
Project exposure in complex robotic systems, mobile fleet deployments, or Robotics-as-a-Service (RaaS).
Experience with unstructured robotic implementations (rather than strictly structured automation).
A strong track record of successful contributions to customer-facing projects involving high-stakes, performance-based milestones.
Experience with uptime-linked service models and/or information management solutions that track system availability and data collection throughput.
Knowledge of hardware reliability tracking, field triage, and quality control processes for high-degree-of-freedom systems.
Travel:
Position is based out of the Boston Dynamics Waltham, MA office. Due to the nature of this role requires up to 30 - 40% travel to visit customer sites and corporate offices.
The base pay range for this position is between $160,000.00 to $200,000.00 annually. Base pay will depend on multiple individualized factors, including, but not limited to, internal equity, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This range represents a good-faith estimate of compensation at the time of posting. Boston Dynamics offers a generous Benefits package including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), paid time off, and an annual bonus structure. Additional details regarding these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer for employment.
We are interested in every qualified candidate who is eligible to work in the United States. However, we are not able to sponsor visas for this position.
