Job Description

The AJC’s mission is to be the most essential and engaging source of news and information for the people of Atlanta, of Georgia and the South.  To achieve that mission, we have transformed ourselves from a storied daily newspaper into a modern media company, where a diverse and skilled team delivers work across diverse creative platforms, industries and borders.  As the Atlanta Falcons Team Reporter, you will be responsible for being the covering the team as well as other NFL news that may impact the Falcons. A successful candidate will be able to keep up with the latest football team news, player movement and stories around the franchise. A successful candidate will be able to quickly produce trending stories, efficiently contribute independently reported features and be able to cover live game action in a way that fans are able to engage.

Duties of this role include:

· Plan content effectively. Work with Sr. Editor, Pro and College Sports to maintain a weekly content plan.

· Stay up to date with what is transpiring with the team and NFL and be able to generate compelling content each day.

· Attend games/events and special assignments as needed. Some travel will be required with a heavier schedule during NFL season.

· Collaborate effectively with other departments to write and turn compelling and accurate content.

· Participate in sports pods/meetings as instructed by Sr. Editor.

· Demonstrate an ability to determine best platform to tell a story (written, video, social, other) and work with platform leads on a collaborative plan to produce reporter-led content.

· Meet assigned goals and deliverables as set by Sr. Editor, Pro and College Sports

· Understand how the metrics allow our company to achieve its goals. When needed, use metrics to make informed decisions on coverage.

· Build and maintain relationships with the Falcons including communications with coaches, players, media relations contacts and other partners

· Participate in podcasts, videos or radio interviews when needed or as assigned by senior leadership.

· Maintain expenses and submit monthly expense reports.

· Be able to work extended hours or flexible hours based on assignments.

Education and Skills:

· Bachelor’s degree (preferably in journalism) OR 4 years working in media organization.

· Experience working with digital media and multi-media. A combination of traditional media and digital media preferred.

· Prior podcast or video experience is a plus.

· Ability to meet deadlines.

· Prior work with CMS and ability to learn new technologies.

· Effectively communicate in a fast-paced environment.

· Remain organized, communicative, and amenable to change alongside a growing company.  

· Knowledge of AP style.

· Proficient in social media applications and how to promote work through social media.

· Curious and open to explore new opportunities.

**Compensation includes a base salary in the range of $50,400.00 - $75,600.00. The base salary may vary within the anticipated base pay range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include an incentive program.
