Location: Calderdale Royal Hospital (CRH) or Huddersfield Royal Infirmary (HRI)
Start Date: ASAP
Duration: Ongoing
Hourly Rate: £30–£35 per hour (DOE)
Working Hours: Monday–Friday, 08:30–17:00 (occasional requirement to work until 18:00)

Job Overview

Pulse is now recruiting for an experienced Band 7 or 8a Clinical Pharmacist to join the Clinical Pharmacy Service at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust.
This is an excellent opportunity to deliver high‑quality medicines optimisation, provide expert clinical input, and support multidisciplinary teams across a range of clinical settings.

You must have strong clinical knowledge, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work both autonomously and within a wider team.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Duties

  • Review prescriptions for clinical appropriateness, legality, and potential drug interactions.
  • Dispense and supply medications in line with Trust and legal standards.
  • Provide clinical and professional advice to medical, nursing, AHP and pharmacy staff, as well as patients and carers.
  • Make evidence-based clinical recommendations, including dose adjustments and complex drug calculations.
  • Manage medication decisions for patients with renal/hepatic impairment, co‑morbidities, or concurrent therapies.
  • Advise in high‑risk areas such as IV therapy, pregnancy, and breastfeeding.
  • Use professional judgement to manage complex clinical scenarios where definitive information may be limited.
  • Participate in pharmacy audits, research, and quality‑improvement activities.
  • Support antimicrobial stewardship in collaboration with microbiology and antibiotic pharmacists.
  • (If qualified) Prescribe independently within your area of competence.

Professional Duties

  • Implement Trust Medicines Management and medication safety policies.
  • Undertake duties of the Responsible Pharmacist when required.
  • Contribute to staff training, supervision, and education of pharmacy students and wider healthcare colleagues.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date CPD in line with GPhC requirements.
  • Work flexibly across CRH, HRI and other Trust sites where needed.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

  • MPharm or equivalent degree approved by the GPhC
  • GPhC registered Pharmacist
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy (or equivalent)
  • Minimum 1 year pre‑registration training
  • Strong clinical pharmacy and medicines management knowledge
  • Understanding of medicines governance
  • Computer literate – ideally with experience using Cerner and EMIS
  • Experience in clinical audit and/or pharmacy practice research
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritise workload and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Commitment to ongoing CPD
  • Eligibility to work in the UK
  • Ability to work across multiple Trust sites

Desirable:

  • Independent Prescriber qualification
