Job Description
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.
You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.
The Data Center Capacity Delivery Asia-Pacific Controls Deployment and Service (DCCD APAC CDS) team delivers and services the control systems which monitor and ensure the health of our data centers. APAC CDS’ mission is to safely provide our customers with the unmatched reliability, security, and performance that AWS is known for. APAC CDS covers three core disciplines of deployments (of control systems in new data centers), projects (of controls capital improvement works at live data center sites), and service (of control systems at live data center sites), with additional specializations in the disciplines of colocated sites, systems engineering, controls fleet, on-call support (of data center control systems in the Americas (AMER), Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA), as part of a global “follow-the-sun” support arrangement), and governance.
As Amazonians, we work in a competitive environment. Our customers are always beautifully, wonderfully dissatisfied. Being successful in our roles is not just about doing our jobs well, but also evolving and innovating. Change is the only constant, and applies to our customers, our roles, our team organization, our tools, and our mechanisms.
To be successful in this team, you will also have:
- Ability to thrive at the pace and scale of Amazon
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple competing priorities
- Ability and willingness to collaborate with peers around the globe, which may involve some participation in meetings at odd hours
- Ability and willingness to travel domestically or globally as and when needed
Controls Deployment & Service (CDS) Managers oversee the delivery and support of data center building automation systems, such as Building Management Systems (BMS) and Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS). CDS Manager supervise a team of Engineers and/or other CDS Managers. CDS Managers are a point of escalation, governance, technical guidance, and partner leadership, above CDS Engineers. Typically, CDS Managers supervise a geographical sub-region within Asia-Pacific, performing supervision of team members in that sub-region. Successfully working as a CDS Manager will also require you to partner effectively with the many teams at Amazon that make our data center deployments and operations a success, including Delivery, Operations, Procurement, and Design teams, as well as maintaining strong relationships with our vendors.
Key job responsibilities
- Deployment of data center controls, on time, with effective management of vendors to ensure minimal defects at the point of Power and Facilities Hand-Off (PFHO)
- Delivery of critical projects to upgrade data center automation
- Service and support provided to partner teams, providing diagnosis and resolution of Loss of Visibility (LOV), Loss of Resilience (LOR), Large Scale Event (LSE), Critical Scale Event (CSE), and other operations impacting events
- Resolution of tasks within predefined Service Level Agreements (SLAs)
- Delivery of further initiatives to improve the efficiency of our data centers or our operations procedures
- Delivery of manager responsibilities, such as performance reviews and promotions
- Authorship of and contribution to key business reporting documents, such as Monthly Business Reviews
A day in the life
- Join the cloud leader: AWS has the most proven operational and security expertise, and the business is innovating at a faster clip, especially in new areas such as Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence, the Internet of Things, Serverless Computing, and custom-designed processors and chips.
- Be at the nexus of action: Your involvement in data center delivery will be mission-critical to the successful deployment of our data centers. You won’t just be observing from the sidelines; you’ll be representing Amazon, building relationships across a wide variety of internal and
