About the Opportunity

This is an exciting time to join our rapidly expanding Employee Benefits team, a newly developed and fast‑paced area of our business. As we scale, we are building a team of talented advisers who want to be part of something evolving, energised, and full of opportunity.

We are seeking a Mortgage Adviser to deliver high‑quality, regulated mortgage advice to both new and existing clients. All leads are provided, allowing you to focus on what you do best—advising clients and delivering outstanding outcomes. This role sits within SPF Private Clients, now proudly part of the Howden Group, giving you the unique advantage of working within a specialist, client‑focused brokerage while benefiting from the scale, stability, and culture of one of the world’s largest insurance groups.

You will play a key role in ensuring accurate, compliant recommendations and first‑class service throughout the entire mortgage journey, with responsibility for upholding FCA requirements—including Consumer Duty—to ensure fair treatment and good outcomes for all customers.

Client Advice & Service

  • Provide clear, professional mortgage advice to prospective and existing clients.
  • Gather and assess client information to complete full needs analyses.
  • Prepare and present compliant and suitable recommendations and reports.
  • Ensure consistent adherence to FCA requirements and company compliance policies.
  • Accurately and promptly log all client interactions.

Business Development

  • Collaborate with your Supervisor to deliver a business development plan aligned to company objectives.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, introducers, and relevant stakeholders.
  • Regularly review client circumstances to identify ongoing advice opportunities.
  • Represent SPF Private Clients professionally at all times.

Compliance & Record Keeping

  • Follow company procedures when submitting business and managing client files.
  • Ensure all administrative tasks meet required record‑keeping and file‑quality standards.
  • Complete remedial actions promptly and within set timescales.
  • Maintain accurate data within internal systems.
  • Demonstrate ongoing competence through monitoring and assessments as required.

Training & Development

  • Obtain and maintain required qualifications to act as a Registered Mortgage Adviser.
  • Complete CPD in line with company policy.
  • Participate in training programmes and work with your Supervisor to address development needs.
  • Keep up to date with industry practices and regulatory changes.

Qualifications & Skills Required

  • CeMAP (Certificate in Mortgage Advice and Practice) or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of relevant FCA sourcebooks, including:
    • PRIN (Principles for Business)
    • COCON (Code of Conduct)
    • FIT (Fit and Proper Test)
    • TC (Training and Competence)
    • GEN (General Provisions)
    • DISP (Dispute Resolution)
    • MCOBS (Business Standards)
  • Awareness of financial crime and AML requirements (SYSC, JMLSG guidance, Bribery Act).
  • Strong communication skills suitable for a wide range of client situations.
  • Ability to assess information, apply regulatory standards, and work within clear processes.
  • Experience within an employee benefits or similar financial services environment is advantageous.
