The Natural Resource Spray Technician provides a unique and rewarding seasonal employment opportunity. Individuals will conduct invasive plant management and other restoration activities on federal, state, and county properties along with rights-of-way in Weld County.
Candidate must possess knowledge pertaining to native and non-native plants, desire to work outside, initiative to work unsupervised, and is physically fit. All those hired will receive on- the-job training.

Job Description
Field Work - 55%
- Operate a computer aided chemical injection spray truck, UTV, or pick-up mounted sprayer.
- Mix, load, and calibrate sprayer in accordance with product labels.
- Selectively spray for designated noxious weeds, including but not limited to: Canada, musk and Scotch thistle, field bindweed, leafy spurge, whitetop, Dalmatian toadflax, diffuse knapweed, and Russian knapweed on county right-of-way, other county properties, and federal and state lands as assigned.
- Spray noxious weed infestations in pastures, river bottoms, along railroad tracks, or other areas as needed.
- Must be able to work with tools and prioritize tasks.
- Maintain equipment daily including pre and post trip inspections along with making or coordinating repairs as needed.
- Drive spray truck at slow speeds (maintaining 10-12 mph) and operate a computer.
Administration - 30%
- Maintain daily spray application records.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other County employees and the public.
- Follow policies and procedures, the Weld County Code of Conduct, and adhere to strict confidentiality guidelines and appropriate release of information outlined in both.
- Assume complete responsibility of valuable equipment including County owned assets as assigned, such as truck, laptop, iPad, phone, and any other equipment, ensuring that they are locked and secure.
Other Duties as Assigned - 15%
- Assist supervisor, foreman, and co-workers with assignments and tasks requiring independent and individual contribution.
- Participate in County training opportunities and group programs, such as the Safety Policy Committee.

Required Qualifications
Experience Qualifications
- 1 year In agriculture, particularly with the use of herbicides.
Preferred Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Horticulture, Natural Resources or other similar major.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of agriculture and crops grown in Weld County.
- Working knowledge of herbicides, weed identification and basic weed control concepts.
- Knowledge of plant life cycles and the ability to identify plants at different growth stages.
- Must have basic knowledge of math for calibration of sprayer and using computer on truck.
- Must be able to read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public, to respond to official inquiries, and to make entries on reports and records.
- Candidate must pass criminal background check prior to employment start date.
Licenses and Certifications
- Colorado Department of Agriculture Commercial Pesticide Applicators Certification in Industrial and Right-of- Way Weed Control (109) and Pasture (107) Categories within 6-8 months of hire. Preferred
- Candidate must pass a substance use screening prior to employment start date. Required
- This position will participate in random substance use screening. Required
- DL NUMBER - Driver License, Valid and in State Upon Hire Required
- Must have the ability to drive a 1-ton truck with a 1000-gallon water tank. Required
- This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening. Employment is contingent upon successfully passing the screening in accordance with Weld County policy.
Candidate must pass background check prior to employment start date.
Candidate must pass a physical demands evaluation post offer screen compatible to this position.

The employee must occasionally climb, squat, crawl, stoop, kneel, carry, and reach overhead. Employee will regularly perform the following: sit, angular reaching, wrist flexion/extension, elbow flexion/extension, supination/pronation, and grasp. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to hazards, temperature change, fumes or airborne particles and vibration. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to extreme heat and cold temperatures. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
This position is non-exempt from the minimum wage and overtime requirements of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is therefore eligible for overtime pay.
