Job Description
The Manager, Grocery Selection Strategy will lead selection strategy across our portfolio of online and in-store grocery formats. In this role, you will lead a team that owns the end-to-end strategy, requirements, and methodology used to build and continuously improve a robust, data-driven selection framework spanning multiple grocery formats.
You will manage a team of professionals, while partnering closely with Category, Product, Tech, and BI teams to develop automated selection tools, multi-metric ranking models, and regional selection frameworks. This role requires both strong managerial presence and analytical rigor to drive measurable business impact. You will own your programs, mechanisms, and metrics end-to-end—from requirements definition through launch, iteration, and executive reporting.
The ideal candidate combines strong business and product sense with a solid understanding of technical concepts. You can think strategically, analyze data, influence without authority, and provide strong customer service support. You must thrive in an entrepreneurial environment and not be hindered by ambiguity or competing priorities. High judgment, analytical talent, ability to influence, and exceptional communication skills are essential to success in this role.
Key job responsibilities
• Lead development of the strategy to define our ideal grocery selection, developing the methodology and tools to be used across WWGS, including the roadmap for selection strategy tools end-to-end (from problem discovery and defining requirements, to working with partners for build, launch, and post-launch optimization)
• Act as the 'business owner', possessing a complete understanding of internal and external variables that impact our business, and serve as the key stakeholder representing selection with cross-functional teams
• Define, track, and own the KPIs and success metrics for selection decisions and tooling, proactively identifying and resolving gaps in performance
• Simplify and automate selection decisions by driving science and tech enhancements in partnership with Product tech teams
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams and communicate program updates with internal and external stakeholders, including leadership reviews
• Drive automation and leverage AI tools to simplify selection planning processes and improve operational efficiencies
• Lead a team of selection professionals to deliver results in an ambitious, fast-paced environment, working across many time zones
- 5+ years of team management experience
- 5+ years of cross functional project delivery experience
- 5+ years of program or project management experience
- Experience defining program requirements and using data and metrics to determine improvements
- Retail industry experience, specifically in the space of selection strategy
- High attention to detail and proven ability to manage multiple, competing priorities simultaneously
- Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills with ability to effectively communicate with both business and technical teams
- Passionate and knowledgeable about customer behavior
- Familiarity with databases and SQL
- Experience leveraging automation and AI tools to streamline operational processes and improve efficiency
- Ability to analyze data quantitatively and use customer research, data and metrics to back up assumptions and identify opportunities
- Experience creating and/or improving operational processes across teams and stakeholders, with bias toward automation
- Proven track record of taking ownership and driving results
