Role: Head of Sales – Global Insight, Japan & S. Korea

You will lead the fast growing, energetic GI Japan & S. Korea Sales Team, part of the wider Market Intelligence Risk & Valuation Sales Organization. 

You will be responsible for new business, and focused on double digit growth in this critical territory.

Role Summary

  • Primarily spends time managing team and client engagements
  • Reporting to head of GI Sales for APAC.
  • Provide leadership to business leaders and individual contributors to meet financial and operational requirements.  
  • Has in depth business and managerial knowledge in function.  
  • Develops regional plans including business, and/or organisational priorities.  
  • Decisions are guided by resource availability and functional objectives.
  • Directs the resolution of complex or unusual problems.  
  • Develops relationships with key internal/external customers to identify existing & emerging needs.

The Business Line – Global Insight:

  • You will be responsible for a team covering customers across Government, Financial & Corporate sectors
  • The business you will be responsible for includes assets covering Economics (including PMI); Global Risk; Supply Chain & Maritime.
  • The products include the provision of Data, Analytics, Insight & Consulting to best support around customer workflow.

Scope and Impact

  • Provides leadership and direction to team
  • Builds mid and long term revenue strategy
  • Manages the financial and operational performance of a well-defined unit.
  • Provides input on resolving key issues that directly impact the business. 
  • Has full responsibility for quality and quantity of work, motivating staff, methods, discipline, staffing decisions and varied and complex supervisory duties. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Manages a team of Senior new business sales professionals, within a region to meet and exceed sales objectives.
  • Engages with key local stakeholders – other business unit leads, account management, relationship management etc to drive enterprise growth.
  • Manages and drives the assignment of sales goals, compensation plans, and travel expense budget for sales team(s) in a specific location or region.
  • Identifies gaps in sales skills, product knowledge and supports with training resource alloction.
  • Ensures that team is aware of trends and responds to client/market demands with relevant products and services to drive revenue in each location within the region or market specific sales segment.
  • Monitors team's performance and compares it with objectives. Leads the creation of a sales plan for team with tactical action steps to execute that plan to meet and exceed sales/revenue goals.
  • Develops high level strategic relationships and promotes S&P Global thought leadership to clients.  Aligns own´s team sales strategy with that of S&P Global's client base. Oversees the identification of potential new client relationships.
  • Owns the team quota.

Strategic Planning & Decision Making

  • Develops departmental plans, including business, and/or organizational priorities in support of overall business strategy.
  • Directs the resolution of complex or unusual technical, operational and organizational problems which may be multi-disciplinary.
  • Makes decisions – guided by business unit or functional business plans – that impact the support and funding of projects, products, services and/or technologies.
  • Decisions are guided by resource availability and function
  • Issues instructions on standard practices and policy application; follows up to determine compliance.
  • Implements processes to produce desired changes in product line, function, or assigned area of responsibility.

Customer Focus (Internal & External)

  • Strategic relationships with peers in department and functional management including knowledge sharing. Responsible for building C-Suite relationship internally and externally
  • Develops strong relationships with key internal and external customers to identify future needs.  
  • Effectively communicates difficult and complex concepts by altering communication style to the audience. 
  • Gathers analyses and presents complex and/or sensitive information for discussion with more senior levels of management.  

Position Requirements – Mandatory:

  • A minimum of a bachelors degree, preferably in economics, business, or equivalent in industry related experience
  • At least 10 years experience in sales and sales leadership roles.
  • Proven track record as an exceptional leader of coaching sales teams through change
  • High diligence at sale forecasting, planning and executing, utilizing well known CRM/SFDC applications
  • Fluency in English and Japanese – written and spoken at a business level.
  • Korean speaking considered a bonus.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office to include expertise on Excel, fluency with Word and well practiced in PowerPoint.
  • World class communication skills to include writing, interpersonal and listening as well as presentation skills gained with large and small audiences.
