Job Description

Ensign-Bickford Aerospace & Defense is currently seeking a talented Environmental Specialist in our Simsbury, CT facility, reporting to the Manager of Safety & Regulatory Compliance. The Environmental Specialist is a critical member of the greater EH&S team and will be responsible for managing the EBAD hazardous waste program.

Qualifications/Requirements:

· A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in the environmental, health and safety, hazardous materials, hazardous waste, or relevant military experience

· Thorough knowledge of OSHA, EPA, CTDEEP, DoD, DSS, DHS and other Federal, State, and local regulations with respect to environmental protection.

· Must have excellent people skills and demonstrated ability to motivate a workforce and train in a Lean Manufacturing environment.

· Must be fluent in English, and able to obtain/maintain a security clearance.

· Innovative and creative approaches and solutions to problems are important.

General Responsibilities (but not limited to):

· Understanding of EPA Regulations and applicable State Regulations and EBAD EHS policies

· Develop a high-level of state and federal regulatory expertise ensuring compliance needs met (RCRA, DOT, OSHA and CTDEEP).

· Manage all aspects of the Hazardous Waste Program including the Contingency Plan.

· Preparation of hazardous, chemical, and biological waste for shipment and disposal, including creation of all federal/state waste documents and managing records.

· Safe handling of hazardous waste containers onsite, as well as loading/unloading waste from vehicles.

· Complete all required manifest paperwork and documentation accurately.

· Conduct safety equipment and hazardous waste inspections.

· Occasionally perform and document Environmental Health and Safety audits.

· Observe EHS regulations, wears all required safety equipment, encourages safe working practices, corrects obvious hazards immediately or reports them to the proper personnel.

· Promote incident prevention for the benefit of employees and visitors.

· Conduct spill response measures, including assessment of the spills and cleanup efforts.

· Maintain relevant EHS logs and documentation, conduct sampling and prepare applicable EHS reports, as necessary.

· Assist in the compliance of applicable laws and regulations.

· Ability to collaborate with employees to achieve cultural change in the face of potential resistance.

· Maintain positive and initiative-taking relations with managers and employees, as well as our customers and regulatory agencies.

· Perform other work-related tasks as required and assigned.

· Comply with all Company and EHS procedures and policies.

Facility Specific Responsibilities (but not limited to):

· Walk the manufacturing floor on a regular basis to establish EHS presence, ensure compliance with hazardous waste regulations and provide support.

Implement, and manage EHS Programs, Policies and Procedures.

· Perform facility Environmental inspections, sampling, and reporting.

· Have knowledge and enforce compliance of regulatory requirements (i.e., OSHA, EPA, DoD, DHS, etc.), including company EHS policies and procedures.

· Ability to oversee Hazardous Waste Storage area and ensure regulatory agency compliance i.e., labeling, containment, proper disposal, documentation, etc.

· Assist in emergency response.

· Powered Industrial Truck trained.

· Perform additional duties as assigned
