About the Team
OpenAI's Legal team plays a crucial role in furthering OpenAI's mission by tackling innovative, fundamental legal issues in AI. If you're passionate about doing significant and unique work as a technology lawyer, this team is for you. The team comprises professionals from diverse fields, including technology, AI, privacy, IP, corporate, employment, tax law, regulatory, and litigation.
About the Role
As a Privacy Counsel, you will help develop and lead privacy initiatives for our advanced AI products, models, and technologies. This is a unique opportunity to engage directly with the forefront of the legal and AI fields. This role reports to our Associate General Counsel, Head of Privacy Legal.
This role is based in San Francisco, CA. We use a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office per week.
In this role, you will:
Support OpenAI research, product, engineering, privacy, and security teams in the development and release of cutting-edge AI products and services
Anticipate and address privacy, regulatory, product, and other legal risks
Develop strategies for handling legal issues in creative ways and build scalable, flexible processes to manage risk
Help build and improve processes for scaling our privacy program as the company grows
Become an expert in AI privacy matters and help propose and advance AI legal policy positions
You’ll enjoy this role if you:
Bring at least 6+ years of legal experience, with a mix of in-house and technology-focused law firm roles
Hold a JD and are licensed or qualified to practice in California
Provide strategic privacy counsel on complex and emerging technologies in fast-paced environments
Show a strong sense of ownership, are inquisitive and enthusiastic about technology, enjoy being continually challenged, and demonstrate sound judgment in ambiguous situations
Excel in communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts to diverse audiences
Take a collaborative and proactive approach, with a track record of working effectively in a cross-functional environment
Stay ahead of an evolving global regulatory landscape and adapt quickly
