Engineering Manager

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Engineering Manager to lead a high-impact team of engineers focused on Visual Factory and visualization technologies. In this role, you will manage the development and deployment of digital tools that simulate, model, and visualize manufacturing systems, supporting data-driven decision making across operations.

You will serve as the focal and the Subject Matter Expert for BU outreach initiatives, ensuring simulation and visualization projects are delivered on time, within scope, and aligned with business goals. This involves coordinating with stakeholders, contributing to budget awareness, and helping keep project plans and timelines on track.

Roles and  Responsibilities

Develop and lead a team of engineers with expertise in plant simulation, modeling, and data visualization.

     

Provide guidance on technical best practices, performance reviews, and skill development.

Develop engineers’ competency in the tools for simulation (e.g., Siemens Tecnomatix Plant Simulation) and visualization (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Ignition, custom dashboards).

Build a collaborative, high-performance team culture focused on innovation and continuous improvement.

Oversee the design and implementation of simulation models for process optimization, capacity planning, material flow, and system behaviour prediction.

Manage the development of visualization tools that provide actionable insights from simulation outputs and live production data.

Prioritize and manage a portfolio of simulation and visualization projects, from discovery through deployment.

Partner with operations and IT teams to understand requirements and deliver targeted simulation and visualization solutions.

Collaborate with site teams to integrate simulation models with real-time data pipelines and factory systems.

Develop and drive the strategy for simulation and visualization initiatives that support Collins’ lighthouse factories, defining project scope, goals, deliverables, and success metrics.

Track and report on project progress, proactively identifying risks and implementing mitigation strategies.

Stay up to date on emerging trends in smart manufacturing, simulation technologies and industrial visualization.

Qualification and Education Requirements 

Minimum Education required (specific field or equivalent):

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical/ Industrial Engineering or related field

Preferred Skills (if any):

Minimum 8–10 years of experience in industrial or manufacturing engineering, with experience managing technical projects from proof of concept through full scale implementation.

Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects.

Exceptional problem-solving, critical thinking, and communication skills, with the ability to simplify and convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and leadership team.

Proven leadership skills, with experience managing engineers or leading a technical team.

Hands-on experience with plant simulation tools such as Siemens Tecnomatix Plant Simulation or equivalent.

Familiarity with data visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Ignition or custom web-based dashboards.

Strong understanding of manufacturing systems, process flows, and production line.

Excellent stakeholder engagement and organizational skills.

Expertise in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma and continuous improvement framework will be a plus.

Hybrid: Employees who are working in Hybrid roles will work regularly both onsite and offsite. Ratio of time working onsite will be determined in partnership with your leader.

Remote: Employees who are working in Remote roles will work primarily offsite (from home). If you live within a reasonable commute of an RTX site with other colleagues you interact with, your manager will discuss whether there is a degree of onsite presence associated with this role.

Candidates will learn more about role type and current site status throughout the recruiting process. For onsite and hybrid roles, commuting to and from the assigned site is the employee’s personal responsibility.

Requires practical knowledge in leading and managing the execution of processes, projects and tactics within one work area.

Typically has broad knowledge and skills within a specific technical or professional discipline with understanding of the impact of work on other areas of the organization.

Typically requires: A University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience, or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years experience

Engineering/Other Technical Positions: Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
