Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Manager, Production Planning and Scheduling to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Strike organization. This leadership role is located in Palmdale, CA and supports 2nd shift operations for the site.

The Production Planning & Scheduling Manager assigns and delegates work tasks to maintain smooth operational efficiency, ensuring that the manufacturing team receives all necessary parts, hardware, chemicals, consumables, and tool‑kit requirements in a timely manner. They coordinate material‑handler support for every aircraft hangar and PC crib, guaranteeing that personnel are available to move and stage components as needed. By verifying raw‑material, work‑in‑process, and finished‑goods inventories and working closely with the manufacturing teams, the manager resolves shortages or excesses in real time and keeps production flow uninterrupted. They also develop and adjust shift schedules, participate in hiring, onboarding, and training of 2nd‑shift staff, and balance workloads, skill requirements, and overtime constraints to optimize workforce utilization.

In addition, the manager prepares comprehensive shift reports summarizing production output, quality results, safety incidents, and labor utilization, and communicates critical information to 1st‑shift management and other stakeholders. They serve as the primary point of contact for internal customers such as procurement and logistics, as well as external customers, responding promptly to inquiries about order status, product specifications, and issue resolution. Through proactive inter‑departmental coordination with quality assurance, manufacturing, AVMs, engineering, GSE, and transportation, the 2nd Shift Manager ensures that equipment, personnel, and materials are scheduled and expeditiously moved via move orders, stock transfers, and shipping requests, supporting continuous‑improvement and on‑time delivery objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plans, prepares, issues and controls production schedules and coordinates with material requirements to ensure a controlled flow of approved materials timed to meet production requirements.

  • Advises management of the status of work in progress, material availability, and potential production problems to ensure that personnel, equipment, materials and services are provided as needed.

  • Schedules equipment and personnel, confirms material supply and demands, prepares work orders or purchase requests for the production or purchase of components or parts based on a master production schedule, shop load and inventory requirements.

  • Coordinates interdepartmental activity with quality assurance, manufacturing, purchasing, engineering, inventory control, traffic, etc.; schedules and expedites the movement of parts by means of move orders, stock transfers and requests for shipping orders.

  • Provides updates, briefings, reports and other details regarding status and milestones to leadership and customer.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree and 4 Years of related experience as defined below, or a masters degree and 2 Years of related experience as defined below. In lieu of a degree, the candidate must a high school diploma/GED and 8 years of related experience.

  • Must have an active DoD Secret or higher clearance (with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance within a reasonable period of time, as determine by the company.

  • 2 years of experience leading a team, process, and/or projects .

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of manufacturing operations.

  • Prior experience in hand tools, tool kits, and tool boxes – with the ability to assist in action items assigned to staff and operations, as well as assessing skills on the team.

  • Active Special Access Program (SAP) clearance.

Primary Level Salary Range: $100,000.00 - $150,000.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
