About the role
At AKQA (part of WPP), we believe in the imaginative application of art and science to create beautiful ideas, products and services. With an entrepreneurial and collaborative approach, we design adaptive digital services and applications that capture the imagination, delivering impressive returns for our clients.
Senior Copywriters at AKQA play essential roles in the strategy, conception, and writing of beautiful ideas, products and services. They bring exceptional creative thought and craft output, developing and delivering projects from brief to end user. The Senior Copywriter at AKQA approaches every brief with fresh eyes. Avoiding familiar solutions, they create and inspire work that is distinctive, effective, and truly remarkable, crafting exceptional copy and storytelling across every touchpoint.
We are seeking a talented Freelance Senior Copywriter to support one of the most recognized and trusted names in financial services, a brand with deep roots in helping people plan, protect, and secure their futures. We are doing transformative digital product work with this client, shaping the ways that millions of people engage with their financial lives. This is a meaningful engagement where strong writing and sharp conceptual thinking have a direct impact on real people at pivotal moments. The pace and ambition of this work calls for someone who embraces AI as a creative collaborator, using it to accelerate and elevate their output while bringing the editorial judgment and human sensibility that no tool can replace. This is a freelance role running from June 15 through December 23, 2026.
ROLE REQUIREMENTS
- Craft exceptional copy across digital products and services, including UX content, interface writing, headlines, and long-form content for web and mobile
- Bring a combination of strategic, conceptual, and copywriting skills to each brief, delivering work that is both purposeful and resonant
- Develop compelling copy that is clear, human, and appropriate for a highly regulated financial services context without sacrificing creativity or craft
- Write and organize copy at the component level, thinking in discrete, field-mapped units such as headlines, eyebrows, body copy, and CTAs rather than flowing prose, with an understanding of how copy lives inside CMS-driven page structures
- Apply or develop familiarity with AEO and GEO writing principles, crafting content that is optimized for discoverability across AI-driven search and answer engines, not just traditional search ranking
- Contribute to content operations deliverables beyond copy output, including content governance guidelines, workflow documentation, editorial frameworks, and agent prompts and playbooks
- Collaborate closely with design, UX, strategy, and product teams to ensure copy and experience are working in concert, with hands-on work directly within Figma as a core part of the workflow
- Work within sprint-based delivery cadences, committing to and meeting copy milestones with the discipline and velocity that agile product development demands
- Engage directly with client stakeholders in a professional and collaborative manner, including navigating review cycles that involve brand, legal, and compliance partners
- Approach every brief with curiosity and a desire to find the most distinctive and effective solution
- Proofread and quality-check your own work rigorously before delivery
QUALITIES AND CHARACTERISTICS
- 5+ years of experience writing copy for digital products and services, with a compelling portfolio that demonstrates range, craft, and conceptual thinking
- An AI-forward working style; you use AI tools as a creative collaborator to generate, refine, and accelerate your work, and you bring the taste and judgment to know when the output is truly ready
- Experience in financial services, insurance, healthcare, or another regulated industry is strongly preferred; you understand how compliance shapes the work and can write copy that is both legally sound and genuinely human
- A portfolio that reflects audience-centric thinking: your work is organized around life moments, goals, and user needs, and it sounds like it was written for a person, not a product
- A systems thinker as much as a writer; you have contributed to content templates, governance documentation, or editorial process design and understand the operational side of content at scale
- Experience writing across UX content, interface copy, campaign concepting, and long-form digital content
- Strong grasp of tone and the ability to adapt voice appropriately across audiences and contexts
- Proficiency in Figma is required; you are comfortable working directly within design files as part of the copy and content workflow
- Excellent writing, grammar, and proofreading skills
- Comfortable committing to sprint timelines and delivering with consistency in a fast-paced, agile environment
- Collaborative, open to feedback, and motivated by producing work that genuinely serves the people using it
- A drive to push boundaries and craft the best ideas of their kind
Location & Commitment
- Must be local to New York City for periodic onsite client meetings
- June 15, 2026 through December 23, 2026
- 40 hours/week
- Expected weekly compensation: 3,600 to 4,500 USD
