About the role

The MEA region requires a highly tax technical and experienced individual to lead the design, implementation, ongoing management and continuous development of the MEA corporate tax strategy. The MEA Tax Manager will lead the delivery of the effective tax rate across the region, alongside ensuring governance and compliance in the region with the group’s external tax obligations.

The role requires analysis and management of complex multidimensional issues utilizing financial and economic analysis and intellectual debate involving discussions with and management of external advisors to optimize the tax profile of the MEA region.

Key responsibilities

  • You will be responsible for implementing Haleon’s Group Tax Strategy and identifying and driving people/process improvements required to enable the successful implementation of Haleon’s Tax Strategy.
  • Ensure Haleon operates in a manner which is consistent with both the Group Tax Strategy and local fiscal requirements.
  • Ensure interactions with external stakeholders are handled in a manner consistent with the group’s Global Tax Strategy and values and thereby maintain Haleon’s corporate reputation.
  • Ensure a focus on delivering tax optimization and tax risk mitigation opportunities across the region.
  • Effective business partners ensure that tax supports the business objectives and identifies and implements efficiencies by providing real time tax technical input on a variety of projects.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Tax Reporting to deliver accurate and timely tax numbers for Group reporting purposes, forecasting the tax charge and forecasting cash tax.
  • Identify ways to strengthen tax compliance processes to eliminate financial and reputational risk and oversee implementation of such process improvements.
  • Drive the strategic direction of external tax audits to mitigate the impact (financial and reputational) on Haleon.  Entering commercial negotiations with local tax authorities as necessary.  Build open and transparent relationships with the relevant authorities across the different territories in the region.
  • Support Business Development proposals to ensure all M, A & D are implemented in a tax-efficient manner with no material tax findings upon subsequent audits.
  • Provide support to government affairs in tax matters (tax advocacy and obtaining tax incentives and rulings).
  • Lead the cultural change by putting into practice the Win as One behavior.

Qualifications and skills

  • Qualified lawyer or accountant.
  • 12+ years of broad proven experience with direct taxes across MEA in both large accounting firms and multinational corporations.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Broad understanding of corporate taxes across MEA, and experience leading relationships with tax authorities across MEA. 
  • Strong knowledge of international tax principles and transfer pricing frameworks (including OECD guidance) and the ability to work effectively with local country tax rules and tax authorities across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Excellent inter-personal skills - demonstrating experience of building strong business relationships with key senior stakeholders
  • Advanced negotiation, conflict resolution, and influencing skills, with strong executive presence and the ability to operate effectively within multinational, cross-cultural environments.
  • Ability to solve complex problems independently, contribute to strategic decisions within area of expertise, and lead or support projects as a best‑practice resource.
  • Proven capability to deliver management insight, simplify complexity, and clearly articulate tax concepts to senior stakeholders and non-tax business partners.
  • Focus on challenging the status quo and ability to lead and drive transformational change.
  • Demonstrated finance partnering capability, working collaboratively to align financial outcomes with strategic objectives, and leading, motivating, and shaping geographically and culturally diverse teams.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, innovative mindset, and a commitment to solving unique, highly complex business challenges and translating data into executive-level insights.
