The Geotechnical Engineering Unit collects and analyzes subsurface information and provides geotechnical engineering designs and recommendations for roadway slopes, embankments, subgrades, and foundations to ensure stability and cost-effective construction.
The Geotechnical Engineering Unit is looking for a Grouting Field Supervisor in our Eastern Regional Office.
In this role you will:
•Function as a field supervisor and as an expert in slab jacking, deep grouting, sub sealing and pipe liner installation.
•Perform inspections of bridge approach slabs, pavement slabs, slope protections, bridge wing walls, pipe liners, and crossline pipes.
•Perform a variety of calculations and computations and plot grout insertion holes.
•Oversee the assembly and disassembly of the grouting equipment.
•Monitor the conditions of equipment and ensure proper maintenance and repair.
•Complete project management duties of planning personnel, equipment or resources.
•Oversee cementitious grouting operations
•Use tablet or computer to document observations and prepare reports.
•Oversee the work of four to eight Division employees.
Frequent overnight travel may be required of this position.
A valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Tanker (N) endorsement is required for this position. Applicant allowed 60 days to obtain a Class A CDL Permit and 90 days from date of hire to obtain a Class A CDL Driver's License with Tanker (N) endorsement.
Pre-employment drug testing will be required. As a condition of employment, a release form (ALCDRG-01) and a background statement (ALCDRG-06) must be completed and signed allowing the NCDOT to check with previous employers for the past two years about controlled substances and alcohol testing.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
Salary Grade and Salary Range: NC13 $50,088-$87,654
Management prefers applicants with the following:
- Knowledge of methods used in highway construction, culverts and bridge design and construction in inspecting bridge approach slabs, pavement slabs, slope protections, bridge wing walls, and pipe liners.
- Experience leveling slabs, filling voids around pipe liners, sub sealing and deep grouting with cementitious grout.
- Experience assembling and disassembling grouting equipment for set up and cleaning, monitoring equipment conditions, and maintenance and repair.
- Experience effectively communicating work to be performed and training less experienced employees.
Minimum Education and Experience

Associate’s degree in an applicable area of engineering technology from an appropriately accredited institution and six (6) years of progressive technician experience; or High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and eight (8) years of progressive technician experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.EEO Statement
