Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the deployment of the Quality strategy for the aligned area to achieve its goals, enhance its reputation and deliver customer satisfaction, continually transforming the Business towards a higher performing organisation.
- Develop the Quality Capability (skills & knowledge) and culture of direct reports, where applicable; as well as of personnel in the aligned business to ensure process compliance and meet regulatory, customer and business requirements.
- Govern the delivery of Quality performance (KPIs) to maximise efficiency and effectiveness in meeting requirements and business goals. Where Quality performance diverges from target, drive appropriate mitigation through coaching or direct action.
- To ensure relevant law / regulation, customer requirements and business strategy are understood; to input into the compliance strategy and ensure the effective implementation and deployment of this into the Operating System and/or Suppliers. Where applicable, to fulfil a specific role as defined by applicable law / regulation and / or to manage the interface with a regulatory body/Customer.
- In partnership with the risk owners, provide proactive assurance for the aligned business area that regulatory, business and customer requirements will be met through an assurance strategy targeted at risks and associated controls. This may involve conducting on-site Audits in support of the agreed Audit Plan.
- To own or drive change to the Operating System, Management System and/or Supplier Quality Management System Requirements (i.e. SABRe/GS3001) to mitigate risks, maximise effectiveness and eliminate cost / waste through insight obtained from proactive assurance and problem themes.
- Protect the business and customer through performing, governing and coaching of problem containment and resolution methods and tools, to minimise impact and to ensure the necessary corrective and preventative actions are completed and verified in a timely manner. Ensure the effective governance of Problem Management exists in the aligned area.
- Enable the aligned area to achieve Right First Time through the coaching and application of defect prevention methodologies and compliance to the Management System, reducing the risks from technical, human and organisational factors to our products.
- (Supplier/Partner Facing) To provide Quality leadership to drive supplier maturity and improvement to deliver compliance and performance that enables the business to achieve its goals and enhance its reputation. Where required, to support assessment of prospective suppliers for suitability, fit and capability in respect to the commodity / sourcing strategy.
- (Submarines) Manage Product Validation & Certification activities, including creation, independent verification and approval of Product Documentation such as supplied document packs and Certificates of Conformity within External and Domestic Supply Chain.
- (ET&S) Demonstrate an understanding of the supplier approval process ensuring that suppliers used by engineering have documented approvals appropriate to their scope of supply. In addition ensure that integration of engineering activity can be demonstrated in line with regulatory requirements (e.g. via appropriate ESID)
- (RRNA) To apply engineering knowledge and judgement to technical processes and problems, such as training/ approval/ governance of Inspection personnel, equipment and activities; and/or support non-conformance control processes (e.g. MRB, QN, ER, Red Tag, MES) to ensure quality, reliability, safety and performance of products.
Required Skills and Experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of or affinity with delivering Quality through a previous role
- Experience working within an Aerospace/ Defence/ Nuclear/ Power Systems/ Other Advanced Manufacturing Industry; typically in an Operations, Supply Chain or Engineering role.
- Ideally, knowledge of problem solving and continuous improvement methodologies, eg; Six Sigma, 8D, Human Factors
- Ideally, have operational experience of activities within the relevant approved organisation scope
