Role Overview 

The Cost Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring financial discipline across Colovore’s data center development projects. This individual will be responsible for cost planning, tracking, forecasting, and reporting across the full project lifecycle—from early-stage budgeting through construction and project closeout. 

You will partner closely with Construction, Finance, Procurement, and Development teams to provide accurate cost insights, identify risks and opportunities, and support data-driven decision-making in a fast-paced, high-growth environment. 

Key Responsibilities 

Cost Planning & Estimation 

  • Develop and maintain detailed project budgets, including conceptual, design, and construction-phase estimates 
  • Support feasibility analysis with cost inputs for new site development and expansion opportunities  
  • Benchmark costs across projects and markets to improve forecasting accuracy  

Cost Control & Reporting 

  • Track project forecast to actual against budget and provide regular variance analysis 
  • Maintain cost reports, dashboards, and forecasting tools for active projects  
  • Monitor commitments, expenditures, and accruals to ensure financial accuracy  

Change Management 

  • Review and evaluate change orders for accuracy, completeness, and alignment with scope 
  • Partner with Construction and Procurement teams to validate pricing and negotiate cost impacts where needed 
  • Track and report on change order trends and risks  

Forecasting & Risk Management 

  • Develop and maintain project cost forecasts, identifying risks and opportunities early 
  • Perform scenario and sensitivity analyses (schedule delays, material cost changes, design shifts)  
  • Highlight potential budget overruns and recommend mitigation strategies  

Cross-Functional Collaboration 

  • Partner with Construction, Finance, Procurement, and Design teams to ensure alignment on cost assumptions and reporting 
  • Support monthly and quarterly financial reporting processes  
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of cost management tools, templates, and processes 

Key Skills 

  • Strong financial modeling and cost analysis capabilities 
  • Deep understanding of construction cost structures and project lifecycles  
  • High attention to detail with strong organizational skills  
  • Ability to synthesize complex data into clear, actionable insights  
  • Strong stakeholder communication and cross-functional collaboration  
  • Proficiency in Excel (advanced), and familiarity with cost management or ERP tools 

Required Experience 

  • 3–7+ years of experience in cost engineering, project controls, construction finance, or similar roles 
  • Experience supporting large-scale construction or infrastructure projects (data centers, industrial, or commercial preferred)
