A hospital lab assistant acts as the backbone of a clinical laboratory. They support medical technologists and pathologists by collecting, processing, and preparing patient specimens (like blood and urine) for testing, maintaining lab equipment, and managing patient data.

Core Responsibilities
Specimen Collection & Prep: Perform phlebotomy (blood draws) and instruct patients on providing other samples. Receive, label, centrifuge, and distribute samples to the correct testing departments.
Data Management: Accurately enter patient information and test results into the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
Lab Maintenance: Sterilize and clean lab equipment, glassware, and work areas to prevent contamination. Track inventory and stock testing supplies.
Quality Control: Monitor temperatures of storage units, calibrate instruments, and report any discrepancies in test results.
Communication: Field inquiries from nursing units, doctors' offices, and patients regarding specimen requirements and test status.
