Job Description

At Roche you can show up as yourself, embraced for the unique qualities you bring. Our culture encourages personal expression, open dialogue, and genuine connections,  where you are valued, accepted and respected for who you are, allowing you to thrive both personally and professionally. This is how we aim to prevent, stop and cure diseases and ensure everyone has access to healthcare today and for generations to come. Join Roche, where every voice matters.

The Position

A healthier future. It’s what drives us to innovate. To continuously advance science and ensure everyone has access to the healthcare they need today and for generations to come. Creating a world where we all have more time with the people we love.  That’s what makes us Roche.

Our Global Internship Programme in Innovation & Sustainability (#IP2TIS) offers a unique opportunity for passionate individuals to gain hands-on experience in the pharmaceutical industry while making a positive impact on the world.

Are you ready to join a global network spanning 20+ countries, where bright minds collaborate to tackle real-world challenges in Innovation & Sustainability? Do you want to work on impactful projects, shape the future, and drive change from within?

The Position

As an intern, you will contribute to CUPCAKE, an AI-driven validation tool designed to remove repetitive bottlenecks in clinical data programming and accelerate regulatory submission timelines. The project focuses on enhancing a standardized R Shiny framework that automates quality control and unit testing for clinical data analysis, helping study teams detect logic discrepancies and stress-test data before final database lock. Within your first 3 months, you are expected to help deliver an enhanced prototype with expanded domain support and a custom test-kit interface, contribute to an AI pilot dataset for advanced logic stress-testing, and support the creation of a production deployment guide. Your work will help improve submission integrity, reduce manual effort for analytical data scientists, and enable faster access to innovative medicines. This internship offers a rare opportunity to work at the intersection of advanced data science, AI, and regulatory drug development in a highly impactful environment.

The Opportunity

  • Design and develop a user-friendly custom test-kit interface in R Shiny that allows teams to create, save, and share dummy data scenarios.

  • Support the expansion of the validation logic library to cover additional submission-critical clinical data domains.

  • Research and prototype AI-driven data synthesis approaches to generate statistically relevant synthetic patient profiles.

  • Improve the application’s stress-testing capabilities to better reflect real-world clinical distributions and complex edge cases.

  • Refine the application architecture to support production readiness for use in live clinical trial environments.

  • Enhance discrepancy reporting and visual feedback modules to identify logic bugs with greater precision before production.

  • Contribute to a technical roadmap for promoting the tool from prototype to the official production pipeline.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to translate regulatory and study team needs into practical, scalable technical solutions.

Who You Are

You are enrolled in your Master’s or PhD studies at a university, preferably in the field of Data Science, Health Informatics, Computer Science, Bioinformatics, or Biostatistics and are interested in applying your knowledge in a modern working environment as part of an internship of 3 months.

Furthermore you are

  • Experienced in advanced R programming and Shiny development.

  • Familiar with clinical data standards such as CDISC.

  • Knowledgeable in statistical modeling and AI-driven data synthesis.

  • An independent and proactive communicator who can work effectively with different stakeholders.

  • Fluent in both Chinese and English.

If you meet most but not all qualifications, we still encourage you to apply.

Additional information

The internship is expected to start between 1 and 16 July 2026 and will last 3 months.
