We seek innovative scholars who advance population health science, implementation research, and program evaluation—particularly those developing new monitoring, assessment, and evaluation (MAE) frameworks that strengthen the real-world impact of public health and health systems interventions.

SGH is committed to offering a premier, cross-disciplinary educational experience that prepares students to design, implement, and evaluate interventions that improve outcomes across diverse communities and contexts. Faculty in this role will contribute to expanding the School’s foundation in implementation science and applied research by developing and applying cutting-edge MAE methodologies that guide data-driven decision-making and measurable impact.

  • Mentor graduate students and junior faculty in research methods, evaluation strategies, and implementation frameworks, including serving on thesis and dissertation committees.
  • Build cross-disciplinary collaborations with clinicians, public health leaders and agencies, community partners, and policymakers to translate implementation and evaluation science into real-world applications, leveraging opportunities for cross-campus collaboration across Meharry’s health systems, community partners, and national and global health networks.
  • Lead an externally funded (or fundable) research program while also contributing to existing School of Global Health initiatives.
  • Design and apply innovative evaluation frameworks and implementation strategies for population and community health projects.
  • Integrate robust monitoring, assessment, and evaluation (MAE) processes into research and practice, including establishing baselines, measuring fidelity, and evaluating outcomes.
  • Publish in top-tier peer-reviewed journals, present at national/international conferences, and mentor graduate students in preparing and showcasing their research to elevate the visibility of the School of Global Health.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Demonstrated teaching, scholarship, and potential for extramural funding in health services or implementation science.
  • Expertise in monitoring, assessment, and evaluation methods applicable to population health or program interventions.
  • Commitment to advancing health equity via research, teaching, and mentorship.
  • Ability to demonstrate successful interdisciplinary research collaboration.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Preferred:

  • Evidence of funded research or strong funding trajectory.
  • Proficiency in statistical or qualitative analysis software (e.g., SAS, Stata, R, NVivo).
  • Experience leading or evaluating population health programs or systems-level interventions.
  • Track record of mentoring diverse students and fostering inclusive research environments.
  • Demonstrated success in collaborative, interdisciplinary projects.

Education and Experience Required:

  • PhD, DrPH, MD, JD, ScD or equivalent doctoral degree in Health Services Research, Implementation Science, Population Health Science, Epidemiology, or closely related field.
