About the role
The Finance Operations Analyst is a core role within the Digital & Technology (D&T) Finance capability, responsible for operating, analysing and continuously improving finance operational processes.
The role covers a spectrum of work from hands‑on execution of finance activities, through analysis and insight, to process ownership and improvement, depending on experience and scope. It plays a critical part in ensuring finance operations across D&T are accurate, timely, well‑controlled and increasingly efficient.
This role acts as the connective tissue between transaction processing, analysis and senior finance leadership — ensuring finance operations not only run correctly, but work better over time.

To ensure D&T finance operations run reliably and at pace, by executing core finance activities, providing operational insight, maintaining strong controls and driving continuous improvement.
Key accountabilities
The Finance Operations Analyst is accountable for:
Accurate and timely execution of finance operational activities
Analysis and explanation of finance data, variances and trends
Maintaining finance process discipline, controls and data quality
Identifying and delivering operational improvements
Supporting stakeholders with clear, reliable finance insight
Key role responsibilities
1. Finance Operations Execution
Execute day‑to‑day finance operational activities, which may include cost tracking, accruals, reconciliations, reporting inputs, forecasting support and month‑end activities.
Ensure activities are completed accurately, on time and in line with agreed processes and controls.
2. Analysis & Variance Investigation
Analyse financial and operational finance data to identify variances, trends and anomalies.
Provide clear explanations of drivers, impacts and implications — not just numbers.
Support planning and forecasting accuracy through insight and challenge where appropriate.
3. Reporting & Operational Insight
Produce and maintain regular finance operational reports used for governance, portfolio and performance management.
Contribute clear commentary and insight to support decision‑making.
Support ad‑hoc reporting and analysis requests from stakeholders.
4. Process Control, Compliance & Data Quality
Ensure finance processes are followed consistently and controls are applied correctly.
Maintain high standards of data quality and documentation.
Identify root causes of recurring issues and work them through to resolution.
5. Continuous Improvement & Automation
Identify opportunities to simplify, standardise or automate finance operations.
Contribute to (or lead, depending on scope) improvement initiatives that reduce manual effort, errors or cycle times.
Help embed improved ways of working across the finance operations landscape.
6. Stakeholder Support & Collaboration
Act as a day‑to‑day finance contact for D&T stakeholders within scope.
Explain finance information clearly and professionally.
Work closely with senior finance colleagues, escalating risks or issues early and constructively.
7. Professional Standards & Capability Development
Demonstrate strong ownership, accountability and attention to detail.
Share knowledge and support capability uplift across the finance team.
For more experienced analysts, mentor junior team members and act as a subject‑matter reference.

Qualifications & skills
Essential
Experience in finance operations, management accounting, or financial analysis
8 - 12 years of relevant work experience
Strong analytical capability with ability to interpret and explain data
Confidence working with finance systems and Excel
Structured, detail‑oriented and reliable
Comfortable working in process‑driven, operational environments
Preferred
Experience supporting Digital, Technology or operational portfolios
Exposure to budgeting, forecasting or portfolio‑based cost management
Experience contributing to process improvement or reporting automation
Familiarity with enterprise finance controls and governance.
