As an Electrical Engineering Technician in our medical technology manufacturing environment, you will help ensure the reliability, safety, and performance of the production and test equipment used to manufacture ophthalmic diagnostic devices, including optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging systems. You will apply hands-on electrical and electronic technical skills to maintain, troubleshoot, calibrate, and improve manufacturing equipment to minimise downtime and support consistent product quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform planned, preventive, and corrective maintenance on manufacturing and test equipment to maximise uptime and throughput.
- Troubleshoot electrical and electronic faults in production machinery, test fixtures, sensors, actuators, and control systems; identify root cause and implement corrective actions.
- Support installation, commissioning, and requalification of new or upgraded equipment, including wiring, functional checks, and handover to production.
- Calibrate and verify measurement equipment and production test rigs/fixtures to ensure operation within required specifications and traceability requirements.
- Interpret and work from engineering drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, specifications, and technical manuals.
- Assist with equipment improvements to enhance reliability, safety, and maintainability (e.g., control panels, PLC I/O, interlocks, E-stop circuits, preventative maintenance optimisation).
- Maintain accurate documentation including maintenance records, fault reports, calibration logs, and equipment history; escalate recurring issues with clear evidence.
- Work collaboratively with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to support continuous improvement, change control, and production targets.
- Ensure all work complies with site safety requirements and relevant quality/compliance expectations typical of medical device environments.
About You
- Qualification: Diploma (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or Engineering Technology.
- Experience: Hands-on experience maintaining and troubleshooting electrical/electronic systems in a manufacturing, production, or test environment (med-tech experience advantageous).
- Technical capability: Strong fault-finding skills across power, control, and instrumentation circuits; confident using test equipment (e.g., multimeters, oscilloscopes where applicable) and reading schematics/wiring diagrams.
- Calibration and quality: Comfortable following procedures, recording results accurately, and supporting calibration/verification activities with attention to detail and traceability.
- Safety mindset: Demonstrated commitment to safe work practices, including isolation/LOTO and working to site and regulatory requirements.
- Ways of working: Proactive, organised, and collaborative; able to communicate clearly with engineers, technicians, and production teams.
- Desirable: Current driver’s licence; forklift/EWP/confined space licences are beneficial depending on site requirements.
