About the role
Your Role
As a Gensler Technical Designer specializing in healthcare design, you will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to shape environments that support patient care, clinical efficiency, and wellness outcomes. Working primarily on healthcare projects—including hospitals, outpatient facilities, and specialized treatment environments—you will contribute across all phases of design, from early concept through construction administration.
You bring a passion for evidence-based design, attention to detail, and an understanding of the complexities of healthcare environments, including planning, codes, and technical coordination. You are interested in how materials, systems, and design decisions impact patient experience, staff workflows, and long-term operational performance.
Our Philadelphia office has a thriving architecture and interiors practice delivering innovative healthcare solutions. Through our integrated, human-centered design approach, we create spaces that positively impact patients, caregivers, and the broader community. With a commitment to collaboration and mentorship, Gensler provides an ideal environment to grow your expertise in healthcare architecture.
What You Will Do
- Participate in all phases of healthcare projects, including programming, conceptual design, schematic design, design development, construction documentation, and construction administration
- Contribute to healthcare planning efforts, including clinical workflows, department adjacencies, and patient experience considerations
- Collaborate with design teams, clients, clinical stakeholders, consultants, contractors, and regulatory agencies to achieve project goals
- Develop and produce graphic presentations, 3D visualizations, and detailed construction drawings
- Apply knowledge of healthcare codes, standards, and guidelines (e.g., FGI Guidelines, ADA, local codes) in design and documentation
- Assist in coordinating technical detailing, including building systems, medical equipment integration, and interior architectural elements
- Work closely with senior architects and designers to ensure quality, constructability, and compliance
- Contribute to office culture, knowledge-sharing, and healthcare design initiatives
Your Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or Interior Architecture from an accredited university
- 3–5 years of professional experience, with a focus on healthcare, life sciences, or other complex technical project types
- Proficiency in Revit required, with experience producing detailed construction documents
- Experience with 2D/3D modeling and visualization tools such as CAD, Enscape, 3ds Max, SketchUp, or Rhino (V-Ray a plus)
- Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) and Microsoft Office
- Strong understanding of healthcare design standards, building codes, and accessibility requirements
- Familiarity with healthcare-specific regulations and agencies (e.g., FGI, DOH, Joint Commission) preferred
- Actively pursuing licensure (NCARB/AXP)
- LEED accreditation or interest in sustainable and resilient healthcare design
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative, and multidisciplinary environment
- Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to think spatially and technically in three dimensions
- Commitment to in-office collaboration (5 days per week)
*This is not a remote position. This position is expected to be in our Philadelphia office full-time.
