Jensen Hughes is seeking highly experienced and motivated Fire Alarm System Designers / Consultants to join our team.  This role will support a fast-paced project through consulting, design, review, and field oversight activities at a large semiconductor facility in North Phoenix.  The position requires technical depth, sound judgment, and the ability to interface effectively with clients.

This role is responsible for the design, evaluation, and consulting of fire alarm and mass notification systems across a variety of project types. The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise, strong knowledge of applicable codes and standards, and the ability to lead projects and collaborate effectively with clients and multidisciplinary teams.

Key Responsibilities

Design, Consulting, and Technical Oversight

  • Lead and execute fire alarm and/or mass notification system design from concept through construction, including system layouts, device placement, riser diagrams, sequences of operation, and calculations (battery, voltage drop, etc.).
  • Develop detailed, code-compliant fire alarm drawings, including shop drawings, specifications, and technical reports using REVIT, AutoCAD, and/or similar design industry tools.
  • Review architectural and engineering drawings to ensure life safety and fire code compliance.

Project Execution and Field Activities

  • Act as the owner’s representative for fire alarm systems during design, construction, and commissioning phases.
  • Conduct site assessments and field surveys to evaluate existing conditions and fire alarm installations.
  • Prepare and review design, shop drawing, and construction submittals for compliance with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements.
  • Support testing, commissioning, and acceptance activities, including preparation of test plans, witnessing tests, and documenting results.

Client, Contractor, and Team Coordination

  • Coordinate and collaborate with engineers, architects, contractors, authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs), and internal project teams.
  • Interface directly with clients to communicate technical findings, recommendations, and project status.
  • Manage technical aspects of projects, including schedules, workload planning, and adherence to approved scopes of work.

Quality, Compliance, and Leadership

  • Stay current on applicable codes, standards, and emerging technologies (e.g., NFPA 72, NFPA 70, IBC).
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior staff, including support for NICET development and training.

Minimum Requirements

  • Five (5) or more years of progressive experience in fire alarm system design, consulting, or inspection.
